For me, it's Tescos.

Simple reason - I was on my way home from work last winter (office job, so well dressed) and popped into local large Tesco to pick up something. Was innocently wandering around when I got a tap on the shoulder - it appeared to be a staff member (so having my headphones in) didn't hear what he said, so just replied, 'No, I'm fine thanks'. He taps again and I took headphones out and he said 'We have a NO HOODS POLICY in the store'. I took my hood down but was secretly seething - FFS, it was sub zero outside and I'd just come inside.

So I'll do everything I can to avoid Tescos.

Any others?

Should people who need service dogs just not go into shops then

The dogs in question aren't guide or hearing dogs, they're just pets. It used to be the case that you could only take service dogs into shops, now it seems to be a free for all and it's really not appropriate in clothes shops in particular.

Iusedtobeskinny · 01/11/2019 13:04

Marks and Spencer’s for allowing men in to women’s changing rooms. Wetherspoons because the dog is not allowed in.

LoudBatPerson · 01/11/2019 13:17

Asda - Too loud, too bright, poor product ranges, poor quality products, overly busy, messy.

Smiggle - The stench of synthetically scented plastic makes me queasy.

Claires - Messy, cramped, too noisy.

Sports direct - Poorly treated staff, understaffed, messy

Tesco - Poorly treated staff, always seems grim and grey in stgore.

Subway - The smell when just walking by makes me feel unwell.

OverByYer · 01/11/2019 14:27

Ew yes Subway, everything looks so grubby and greasy in there

Monsterinmyfoooof · 01/11/2019 14:38

I try to avoid CO-OP as the food is crap and expensive compared to other supermarkets, but you do inevitably spend money in there with one being near.

I avoid Costa now due to the way they treat their staff.

Monsterinmyfoooof · 01/11/2019 14:44

Any supermarkets that allows children to sit in the trolley while parents push it around. They have dirty shoes on/nappies and I think it's just gross that you have to put food in that then sits in your fridge. Trolleys 🛒 must be pretty filthy as it is... I've never seen any one hosing them down.

But if you leave them out in the rain they get a good wash Grin

JacksonPillock · 01/11/2019 14:47

Just shop online for basically everything.

I still go to the supermarket cos I just love food shopping, but apart from that, I don't go to shops.

Monsterinmyfoooof · 01/11/2019 15:19

*My Local Tesco.....
*rude staff standing around chatting in the aisle
*Never any small trolleys no matter how many times I complain
Out of date food on the shelves despite again complaining.
That don't give a shit

You are right they don't. A family member works for them and they constantly raise issues with staff about stock rotation and not following procedures and they either discipline or ask them to have a chat in the office. It's a circus with lazy and unprofessional staff getting away with their behaviour and the better hardworking staff being told to shut up and get on with it. The management are awful and treat staff like crap. It's no wonder so many people on here find the shopping experience so terrible.

Kazzyhoward · 01/11/2019 15:22

Also you will probably notice Greggs staff almost never smile. There’s a reason for that.

The reason is that your store must employ grumpy staff. We have two Greggs and the staff in both are mostly really friendly/happy, a few have worked there for many years.

Soubriquet · 01/11/2019 16:24

Every member of staff I my local Greggs are smiley and happy

Confused
AuntyElle · 02/11/2019 12:06

MitziK, that is absolutely epic. A feminist Pretty Woman in the white goods!

Longlivepenguins · 02/11/2019 12:14

All of them, I bloody hate shopping. Interweb, always.

ssd · 02/11/2019 12:18

Blimey. How have I got to over 50 and never found a shop I wish to avoid?
I thought I was hard work but some of you make me feel like mother Theresa.

SistersOfPercy · 02/11/2019 12:28

Now I’m not having you knocking Kwiksave Thursday night big shop was the stuff of dreams because I got a boil in the bag curry and a super mousse for helping. Happy times.

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/11/2019 12:55

The only shop I actively avoid is All Saints, meaning I often see stuff in their window that I like but don't go in.

The reason is their staff are too helpful and won't leave me alone (terrible reason I know!). The last couple of times I went in to check out some t-shirt that was in the window and ended up being given about six things to try on, none of which I bought.

I'm sure I've now got a time-waster reputation!

OneKeyAtATime · 02/11/2019 15:04

Asda -i find the food tastes vile

Sports direct -for the way they treat their staff and because it only stinks of cheap clothing

Pizza hut - the food is nasty and they trick you into thinking their buffet include ice cream. Outrageous: )

Kfc -because if I wanted an oily, greasy bucket I d make it myself

B and q for their terrible aftersale service

W h smith - rally expensive

Not a shop but I would never fly BA again. Useless airline

havingtochangeusernameagain · 02/11/2019 15:09

Not a shop but I would never fly BA again. Useless airline

I said that after a bad experience with them in the summer but am going away in early January when I can't use trains/Eurostar due to engineering works so am risking flying with them again (they're much cheaper than the alternative, about £300 for the times and route I want, so they get one more chance).

MitziK · 02/11/2019 15:13

Fuck's sake.

Bastarding Curry's. I've just seen their latest advert - it's a woman buying a laptop because it goes with her coat.

Why don't they just fuck the cunting fuck off?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 02/11/2019 15:57

Lush, M&S as of this week, Arcadia, Starbucks & Sports Direct. See reasons above Smile

Not a shop, but the Caravan Club for 20 years and counting after being treated appallingly on a site we arrived at late due to a closed motorway (fatal RTA).

We'd tried to phone ahead but our calls weren't answered and we were turned away with young children at ten o'clock at night by a right jobsworth bastard.

I'm very unforgiving about Bad customer service.

mencken · 02/11/2019 16:06

at this time of year, most of them, and with the exception of the food shop it will be that way until January. Let's hope I don't need to do any DIY.

specific boycotts:
Morrisons - noisy with music and very expensive
any shop that has the heat on and the door open - hence I buy very few clothes, not an issue as I have loads and hate clothes shopping anyway.
Amazon - for obvious reasons. And really pricey too!

GreenJumperDay · 02/11/2019 17:28

@MitziK
don't worry the laptop won't last long, the coat will still be going years after the laptopGrin
I'm still waiting for a microwave I was told was ready for collection on 30th but they can't find it in the shop, so that's 4 days now! and they couldnt give a shiny shite! Bloody useless Bastards!😤

Cherrysoup · 02/11/2019 17:31

Sports Direct! I was in there one time and security were checking bags on the way out and FRISKING people! Totally illegal and actually common assault. Bonkers, fuck knows what they were thinking.

mindproject · 02/11/2019 17:41

I don't go in anywhere where I feel I am being completely ripped off i.e. cheap crap with expensive price tags. The worst offenders are Zara, The White Company, Jo Malone, Mango, Urban Outfitters. I especially hate Zara.

JimmyGrimble · 02/11/2019 18:03

ASDA ... because Walmart and now they are forcing staff to sign new contracts. Also when my son was little I complained about the Christmas aisle (it was the end of September) and my son had got all excited about seeing Santa - he was 3. They suggested I shop elsewhere and I always have since. Shit shop.

paperandfireworks · 02/11/2019 18:35
