For me, it's Tescos.

Simple reason - I was on my way home from work last winter (office job, so well dressed) and popped into local large Tesco to pick up something. Was innocently wandering around when I got a tap on the shoulder - it appeared to be a staff member (so having my headphones in) didn't hear what he said, so just replied, 'No, I'm fine thanks'. He taps again and I took headphones out and he said 'We have a NO HOODS POLICY in the store'. I took my hood down but was secretly seething - FFS, it was sub zero outside and I'd just come inside.

So I'll do everything I can to avoid Tescos.

Any others?

Lush here too after the police thing.

One of the only good things to come out of Stevenage is this little family run bath bomb shop portsidesoapcompany.co.uk/product-category/bath/bath-bombs/ (not affiliated with them in any way, I just think it's a gem of a shop)

TwattingDog · 30/10/2019 14:15

Hey @BeesKnees4 you've not even read what I wrote the first time.

I live in a rural area. I do not support fox hunting.

I'm also a firm believer in the rule of law, and that applies to saboteurs (the clue being in their name) as well.

formerbabe · 30/10/2019 14:19

If a shop is playing music, then I try to get out of there as quickly as possible...even if I like the music.

flatshoes · 30/10/2019 14:26

Aldi for looking into my friends walker frame fixed bag which contained her meds. Complained for what its worth.
Other local supermarket to avoid rude patronising staff member as I'm not part of her little faux clique, I like my free coffee which you'd think she paid for, horrible woman and I'll be back.

flopsytheflatcat · 30/10/2019 14:29

Primark - Cheap and nasty
Clarke's - rude staff
The Body Shop - just leave me the fuck alone!

EleanorReally · 30/10/2019 14:32

long time ago in my local book shop, i bought a Jilly Cooper book, Can I have a bag please, The shop owner, turns his nose up and says Oh No not for This, looking at the book
I said, I wont have the book in that case
silly man

ThatMuppetShow · 30/10/2019 14:32

the whole point of Primark is that it's cheap!

You can find great stuff in there though. It shows how overpriced some other shops can be when the quality is similar but for a fraction of the price.

I love Primark, it's amazing how little you can spend and leave with huge bags of shopping. Leaves me more cash to spend in much more expenses places, win win.

Buttons4me · 30/10/2019 14:33

Lush - migraines and Claires - leave me alone to get what I'm buying.

flatshoes · 30/10/2019 14:35

Even though it tastes like shit but its a hot drink on the way home and best of all its Free so woman do one with your sighing and ignoring.

Lhastingsmua · 30/10/2019 14:36

Snog at Westfield London (White City / Shepherd’s Bush)

I used to work at a store within Westfield, on my lunch break I went to Snog and paid - I just wanted a smoothie. Was told it would be a few minutes.

The cashier stared at the smoothie machine and declared that she didn’t know how to use it then refused to make my drink. She then started to mess around with their bins with her BARE HANDS, whilst I was waiting in confusion. She didn’t even wash her hands when she started serving other customers.

I waited 15 minutes and no one made my drink. I spoke to another member of staff to complain, he pointed at a random discarded drink cup on a customer table and told me to take that one because the previous customer apparently didn’t drink out of it and it was the same drink (???)

Obviously I declined and asked for a refund. They then said they couldn’t do that and had to get a manager over, it took bloody ages.

I have never been to Snog since and I used to be a frequent customer!

ParisInTheSpringtime · 30/10/2019 14:39

@EleanorReally 😂 that’s hilariously rude of him. I love a bit of Jilly Cooper.

flatshoes · 30/10/2019 14:41

Not to mention the local charity shop mafia, yes please I'd like to come in if I may to see your overpriced bobbly jumpers without being given the evils as I venture to open the door. Pease do stalk me round the shop and speak to me like something you stood in.

Youmeandthesea · 30/10/2019 14:41

Had no idea about this rule, I wore a hood in Tesco on Saturday night, same reason, because it was cold, I saw several employees and no one asked me to take off my hood. Maybe they went easy on me because I'm heavily pregnant Grin

onmysofa · 30/10/2019 14:48

Local estate agents snobby person, and yes I am interested in purchasing that ridiculously over priced property even though I am dressed in muddy boots and jeans.

CaraConcerned · 30/10/2019 14:51

Neal's Yard after all the homeopathy bollocks that they didn't even have the balls to defend in a q&a.
Plus the last time I went in one of their shops the assistant was spewing crap about normal non-Neal's Yard shampoo causing cancer.

Their loss, I have loads of money to spend on luxury bath/skincare products if I so wish, it's hardly a niche market.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 30/10/2019 14:52

Anywhere that smells of perfume. Anywhere that doesn't have prices clearly labelled. IKEA because it's a bloody nightmare. Went in once. Never again.

CaraConcerned · 30/10/2019 15:00

Also I'm very wary of John Lewis now after a disastrous delivery experience where they used Home Delivery Network (now Yodel) and after I'd waited in all day they basically lied saying my road was closed (?) so they couldn't deliver it then John Lewis got really arsey about redelivering it.

woodymiller · 30/10/2019 15:18

Smiggle- migraine inducing
Sport Direct - jumble sale set up & crap returns policy and they treat their staff like shirt so they unsurprisingly don't GAF
WH Smith - no I don't want chocolates for a pound, ink cartridges or ten random vouchers with my receipt.
Clares accessories - rammed with shite

WitsEnding · 30/10/2019 15:23

Lush because of the smell, same for anywhere with a massive stock of scented candles.
Sports Direct because I can't find anything, especially the exits
House of Fraser because I'm infuriated by their charges and poor service for orders.

HazelBite · 30/10/2019 15:25

My local M&S they don't know the meaning of customer service.

Nodancingshoes · 30/10/2019 15:45

H&M - I'm a size 14 yet in H&M I struggle to do up a size 18...I avoid it now

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 30/10/2019 15:45

WH Smith, unhelpful staff, rude even, piles of chocolate that customers have to queue round. Would rather buy books from Waterstones a proper bookshop imo and my husband changed a book there recently he'd inadvertently duplicated and bought from another branch, lost the receipt, nice staff offered him either a replacement or credit note.

I don't like Boots that much but go there occasionally.

Most of the coffee chains, prefer to support independents.

I agree with posters about TK Maxx looking like a jumble sale, but they do sell very nice soap I go there for those.

Amazon I try not use if I can help it, but have done occasionally.

RaquelWelch · 30/10/2019 15:50

Oh, that did make me laugh!! And when they try to sell an item at an extortionate price because it has a designer label, but it is 30 years old and smells of mothballs (with holes to prove the mothballs weren't effective!)

Blossie0 · 30/10/2019 15:52

The dominos one really made me laugh!

I can't stand sports direct as they don't do refunds if you change your mind.

The Halifax in my area closes at 4 (what about people with full time jobs?)

Morrison's I hate the lay out and the brand and it just feels dirty to me
