Bbc radio are doing a series on infertility, not once have I heard adoption being talked about. As someone who took the positive decision to adopt over ivf and other options am I being unreasonable that they are not discussing it and promoting other forms of motherhood. Adoption is just another form of being a mum in my opinion.

@Josette77 apologies if my post came across that way. What I meant is that I’ve spent my entire relationship since I met my DH thinking about having children and starting a family together. After finding out that may never happen so many people said ‘oh just adopt’ like that would take away all the pain and solve all our problems. For me the desire to adopt and the desire to start a biological family with my DH are completely unrelated.

@gracepoolesrum why would you not be considered for adoption?

gracepoolesrum · 29/10/2019 16:42

@purpleframes - 20+ year age gap between me and dp. We've been together over a decade and have a happier and healthier relationship than many conventional couples I know but I actually work for a local authority child protection team and I know there's no chance they'd consider us. Fortunately IVF was successful for us.

Linking infertility and adoption would feel odd to a lot of people.

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/10/2019 17:42

Adoption isn’t really a route people should take for parenthood, it’s a social service (like fostering) for children with often very profound needs. The fertility industry needs to unlink it to infertility discourse.
