My dp and I are expecting first child very soon, due date is this coming week. We are arguing about pictures of the new arrival going on social media. I would like to, but he just hates the idea of it, not quite sure what to do and honestly sick of arguing about it. Not had any bump or scan pictures on social media either and we have only started talking about the pictures this week. AIBU to be annoyed about this?

Ye could compromise. Form a closed group of family and close friends and post only in that ?

Personally I don’t agree with sharing photos of babies/children on social media. I have friends that put EVERYTHING on there and it makes me cringe, especially as they are “friends” with hundreds if not thousands of people.
We’re expecting our first at the moment and will absolutely not be doing it. Thankfully my OH agrees with me. If I want to share photos with family or friends, I will send a WhatsApp to them, not put it out into the world for anyone to get hold of. With so many data hacks happening all the time, it’s just not worth the risk.

Pineapplebaby · 29/10/2019 13:19

Sorry, I’m answer to your question; you’re not being unreasonable to disagree with your OH but I’d be interested to hear why you want to share photos in such a permanent public way...

Let your child decide how and if their identity is spread across the internet. Until they're old enoigh to to make that decision, I wouldn't put anything on that shows a face etc.

EpcotForever · 29/10/2019 13:28

I don't share any pictures of my children on social media & asked friends and family to do the same. My boys are beautiful and im not hiding them away, but it's alarming how many strange people have access to the internet.

HoneyBee03 · 29/10/2019 13:28

I agree with your DH I'm afraid. We don't allow any photos of our toddler on social media at all, I think it's strange and there is no need and several of my parent-friends feel the same. I think scan photos are quite personal too. I didn't want the internet seeing my womb. I regularly send photos of our son to relatives to keep them updated but I don't want Facebook having them all.

It's just a big exercise in seeking validation and seems really unhealthy to me. Surely you just tell the people you care about IRL.

PanamaPattie · 29/10/2019 13:30

YABU. Your DP is right. Your baby doesn’t need to be all over SM. It’s a form of boasting and no one likes that.

LittleOne61 · 29/10/2019 13:58

I don't see the harm in a post here and there as long as privacy settings are locked down. If you actively use social media then I think it would be really strange to totally ignore probably the biggest thing in your life to date.

I feel like people who don't do it like to feel superior for whatever reason. I don't agree that it's 'boasting' - I just think it's sharing little bits of our life. I love seeing other people's pictures too - of whatever is important to them - food, dogs, cats, exercise, babies, travelling, reading...

ChrisPrattsFace · 29/10/2019 14:14

I had no scan/bump pictures on. DH our one picture of him on the day he was born, and then a few weeks later a picture of his hand. No other pictures are on or will go on.
I’m a member of a private/secret group of close friends and there’s the odd one in there for updates to friends who love accords Australia and America!
You need to compromise.

ChrisPrattsFace · 29/10/2019 14:14

Who live across**

ChrisPrattsFace · 29/10/2019 14:16

Also little one, we don’t - not post pictures because we feel superior. We do it because he’s his own human and one day he will make the choice if he wants pictures plastered all over the internet.
Imagine reaching 18 years old and there’s thousands of pictures of you on the internet already? Personally I really wouldn’t like it!
