Holiday Kitties with friends

Just come back from a week away, 3 of us mostly but with another joining us for a couple of days.

two of us (and random joining friend) were happy to have a kitty. So bung a random amount in and pay for entrance fees, food and drink out of that.

If anyone was going particularly over the top that could be reflected in a bit more being bunged in or in the divvying up of any refund at the end.

4th friend wanted to keep a copy of every receipt, write who was at the table for the food. And has just now worked out what we owe.

It's not plate by plate - but a 1/3 or a 1/4 of a bill and I think she has made some allowances for if I was just having a beer and everyone else was having cocktails or such like.

I appreciate the effort she's gone to - but I have to say AIBU in just thinking a kitty and a bit of give and take is easier!?

I came here for cats you met on holiday!

Back on topic: in the past, I've always had a kitty (whip) on holiday with friends.

The rules are simple, all friends must be present when kitty funds being used. All friends put in the same amount. No piss-taking when ordering drinks etc (thankfully my friends tend to stick with beer/ or not drink excessively).

I'm beer drinker - it wouldn't bother me if they had a cocktail - it would bother me more if they've ordered champagne.

Having a kitty should take the stress out of it (I'm usually the kitty holder)

Also here for the cats.

Anyway, a big group of friends used to have a kitty. However, I don’t drink alcohol. They used to act like I’m tight but I don’t want to spend £20 on a couple of cokes.

And for those of us who are here for holiday cats - here's the one I hung out with Majorca

I don't think you're unreasonable, but if she wants to separate out her own, thats up to her. You can still have a kitty for three of you - she just needs to tot up her own at the end of every meal or drinks round, or indicate from the start she will be paying separately. I think its a pain in the arse but she could be pretty skint.

FWIW I was in Benalmadena last weekend with my friends. First girls holiday abroad since 2003.

We hadn't really thought about a kitty, but after lots of 'I'll pay - no I'll pay" incidents, I just said why don't we stick fifty euros in a kitty and use it for everything. Honestly it was so much easier (but then we were all drinking the same and eating equivalent) We did have to put more fifties in quite quickly I might add.
Here is a kitty I saw :)

Well for some reason I thought it was going to be about a sad or falling out cat related story and a holiday, eg my friend looked after my cats when I was on holiday and X happened, so that's a relief.

DP and I also seem to attract holiday kitties of the feline variety, probably because we have 'experienced cat slave' dripping off us.

We were in Greece and were targeted frequently and effectively by kitties.

None of us are particularly hard up. No one was taking the piss with champagne. She just genuinely couldn’t understand a kitty as a concept. I’ve been away with her before and she’d ask when it was her turn to pay, and we’d say kitty is paying. And she’d be confused. She used using a cc this time as an excuse not to kitty....
