I feel rubbish all the time lately. Lethargic and wound up etc. I’m sure I need more sleep, more exercise, less sugar and less caffeine etc but I’m not feeling particularly motivated!
What is the one single thing you’ve done that has made the biggest positive impact on your health or wellbeing?

Giving up refined carbohydrates.

prattheather1 · 29/10/2019 22:22

Gardening! Got an allotment

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 29/10/2019 22:23

I don't snack in the evenings or eat late so I have a 12 hour fast overnight. My sleep has improved immensely. When I do go out and eat later I can't sleep

Siameasy · 29/10/2019 22:25

Low carb - high fat. No bread being a big part of that

Regular exercise-mainly weightlifting rather than cardio.

Lolwhat · 29/10/2019 22:35

Got a puppy that needed walking 3 times a day😂

Theresnobslikeshowbs · 29/10/2019 22:40

A combination for me:-

Stopped smoking
Joined the gym
Went from 2 glasses of wine or more a night, to 2 glasses once every 4 weeks or more.
Stopped ordering take always
Started eating more healthy
Started taking vitamins- magnesium, zinc, calcium, B6, b12, multivitamin, hair and nails vitamin and vitamin C.
Going to bed at roughly the same time

OhMyDarling · 29/10/2019 22:43

Became vegan from a lifetime of being vegetarian.
Diary is the devil.

Next step: banning the carbs.
I just love bread too much. Not sure I can survive winter without it.

OhMyDarling · 29/10/2019 22:44

Oh and got a dog too- changed our lives!

ThreeLittleDots · 29/10/2019 22:54

I've been reading about slow-rise breads e.g. sourdough being much better for us as v.v.little gluten - wonder if there's anything in that?

Getting diagnosed with Hashimotos- it meant I got treated for something I’d no explanation for - unbelievable lethargy that sleep don’t touch the sides of, lack of any kind of joy for anything, frightening occasional black thoughts, and weight gain.

Diagnosed with hashi, vit D deficiency and anaemic.

10 months on - after going private - Bloods all good.

I joined a gym and got addicted to spin
A stone fell off
I noticed I felt different exercising depending on what I’d eaten, so started eating well to avoid feeling gruesome working out
I bought a race bike and I cycle, on a bike, clipped in shoes and all and I LOVE IT!

I feel good again Smile
My downfall now is not going to Bed and then lack of sleep.

dollybird76 · 30/10/2019 03:02

For me it was just taking a multi vitamin and an iron tablet regularly. It gave me enough energy to help me get upright and make bigger changes, like joining a sports team.

Pensionista · 30/10/2019 06:06

If you take VitD you need K2 as well for absorbtion.

Pensionista · 30/10/2019 06:13

Sssd......No. In winter you need at least 5000iu Vitd3 and K2 for absorbtion.

nrpmum · 30/10/2019 06:17

@justrestinginmybankaccount I was diagnosed Hashi's last year. It's surprising how much it affects you

B9ddy · 30/10/2019 06:33

Seeing a psychologist for cognative therapy

BatshitCrazyWoman · 30/10/2019 06:37

I find meditation affects everything in my life positively. I also do HIIT cardio - I do it at home, the minute I get home from work before doing anything else. I'd love to do it in the morning but I get up at 5 for work! I like HIIT because it's quick! And in direct contrast to all PPs who suggest running - I hated running and felt so much better when I stopped - find a form of exercise you love, OP, then you'll do it.

I don't smoke and drink a glass of wine a month, at most. I take a good multivitamin and this thread has reminded me to buy some vitamin D3, which I meant to do last month ...

SpiderCharlotte · 30/10/2019 07:25

@ethelfleda thank you for starting this thread, so many of the replies are giving me inspiration.

Can anyone recommend a good multivitamin to take daily? I'm not suggesting that it will cure all, but perhaps make a difference in a small way.

I'm still recovering from the effects of chemo and surgery after cancer and my GP has said that it'll just take time, but I want to aid my own recovery as best I can.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 30/10/2019 07:42

I take this one www.lambertshealthcare.co.uk/multiple-formulas/multis-for-adults/multiguard/

mamaduckbone · 30/10/2019 09:11

Running.
I'm not at the moment and know I need to start again for mental health, better sleep and just feeling better about myself.

Also cutting out/down on carbs.
Personally, giving up alcohol doesn't work for me because I don't drink that much anyway and it feels too joyless! Giving up bread and pasta on the other hand doesn't make me feel like I'm missing out.

ferntwist · 30/10/2019 09:37

I gave up sugar (including honey, syrups etc but not fruit) last Christmas and I’ve lost about 10lbs without noticing much. I’m going to treat myself over Christmas and then give it up again. Best thing I’ve ever done for my health. Weirdly my cholesterol has fallen too.

Localocal · 30/10/2019 10:21

Stopped worrying about my weight and just accepted it. This enabled me to focus on health instead and start thinking about what I ate in terms of nutrition instead of calories. I now try to eat healthy foods without worrying about amounts, and I take exercise I enjoy (almost all dance classes for me) instead of worrying about burning calories or building muscle. I feel ten times better physically and mentally since I stopped trying to be thin.

LushAlice · 30/10/2019 14:54

Going to Clubbercise 6 times a week - my Metabolic Age has gone down by 18 years in one year!

**sheshotssheimplores
Worth a try, I know not everyone who has rosacea has h.pylori, but it must more than co-incidence that it cleared up after treatment! I was also advised to tell members of our family to get checked as it can run in families. Turns out DH, DM, DD, MIL slso had it! FIL was negative and my DB and 2 SIL, BIL were not offered tests for h.pylori as their GP said they didn't have any symptoms (prob to do with costs). One other thing that might help, in the summer after many years, I had a slight return of rosacea, it wasn't h.pylori this time and it was quite mild, I saw an advert for a skincare range containing a type of probiotic (don't know if i can say the name here??) It calmed it all down after around 9 days. Good luck!

sheshootssheimplores · 30/10/2019 18:29

Interestingly I’ve recently bought a probiotic that’s supposed to help with rosacea. My subtype is flushing only which is the most difficult to treat.

mindproject · 30/10/2019 19:39

Chillisauce - I don't take any vitamins or supplements, including B12.
