To ask for anti nausea meds

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and not really struggling with sickness, but horrific nausea that’s honestly floored me for the past week. I’ve tried eating plain things or little and often and ginger and blah blah blah but literally nothing helps. I can’t carry on like this. Are there any anti nausea meds available or is everything just anti sickness?

Most anti-sickness act on nausea as well.

I was given cyclizine during both pregnancies as the nausea was horrific and I really struggled at work (I'm a chef so feeling sick in the kitchen is never good at the best of times)

Hey OP cannabis is excellent for nausea. You might not want to smoke but investigate things like cannabis oil

user1473878824 · 27/10/2019 15:33

“You might not want to smoke” to deal with nausea in PREGNANCY? Are you taking the piss?

Peony99 · 27/10/2019 15:33

Absolutely ask your GP - in my experience they will be sympathetic and helpful, and there absolutely are useful drugs for you.

I'm sure you're not stupid enough to follow PP's advice on dodgy things bought off the internet when you're preggers🙄

Venger · 27/10/2019 15:33

Speak to your GP about anti-emetics as they can help with nausea and are proven to be very safe. I'd be wary of using CBD in pregnancy as there is a lack of long-term research into side effects on pregnant women and infants so it may or may not be safe.

ThreeLittleDots · 27/10/2019 15:34

Yep, anti-sickness also work as anti-nausea. Call your GP or MW. Not sure if a pharmacist could dispense without seeing GP, but you could give Boots a call to find out?

Venger · 27/10/2019 15:35

The pharmacy can't dispense anti-emetics without a prescription.

ThreeLittleDots · 27/10/2019 15:41

OTC anti-nausea though maybe.. What about antihistamines, Venger?

amusedbush · 27/10/2019 15:45

I was given cyclizine when I had a stomach thing (noro, or similar) that just wouldn’t budge. I was crippled with nausea for almost two weeks.

One thing I noticed is that about 30 minutes after taking a tablet my nausea would disappear but I felt drunk. It was as if I’d gone to work after a few drinks and it impacted my work, so keep in mind side effects. I couldn’t drive when taking them.

LakieLady · 27/10/2019 16:12

I don't know if they're safe in pregnancy, but I buy Stugeron travel sickness pills for the awful nausea I get when I get migraines.

I used to get metoclopramide OTC, but it's prescription only now. The Stugeron works almost as well. Most importantly, it works just as quickly!

Camomila · 27/10/2019 16:15

I'm on cyclizine...it makes me stop throwing up but unfortunately the nausea is still there for me.

Lunafortheloveogod · 27/10/2019 16:16

Travel sickness bands? They’re not going to cure you 100% but they take me from being on the verge of puking all day to I can eat n a little bleh feeling if I wait too long.. mine were 99p from savers, they’re not attractive or fancy but it’s drug free and works well enough that I don’t need to bother arguing with my gp this time. Mine was an arse, didn’t want to prescribe anything for hg with ds and I’m so glad im not actually puking this time!

Confusedbeetle · 27/10/2019 16:18

Discuss with GP, personally I was too worried about taking medication in pregnancy (in the days of thalidamide, which I was offered)

fluffyjumper · 27/10/2019 16:19

I had cyclizine prescribed for nausea, I was also stuck in bed for 5 weeks due to it. I'm now 30 weeks and still get the odd bout. Talk to your gp who will do other checks to ensure theres no other underlying cause like a urine infection and then discuss options.

CatsCatsCats11 · 27/10/2019 16:28

I'm the same at the moment (almost 10 weeks) I have the sea sickness bands, polos and Vimeo all seem to be helping. I'm close to calling the doctor too.

My daughter in law is suffering badly from morning sickness.
Any suggestions for healthy food that might tempt her?

Zerrin13 · 03/09/2020 21:09

My sympathies to you all who are suffering. Its just too awful to describe.
