Am doing a massive clearout at the moment. What do you do with clothes that are still good enough to wear/donate? And what do you do with clothes that aren’t? How do you dispose of them?

Charity shop or recycle

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/10/2019 15:03

Donate to charity shop, any that are too worn are still donated but labelled as rags, as charity can still get money for them, but saves them time having to sort them if you let them know first.

TeenPlusTwenties · 27/10/2019 15:03

Good enough to wear - charity shop, either in person or one of the door collections (one from a place that has a charity shop, not one of the by weight ones).

Not good enough to wear - into a bag marked as rags and when we do a tip run into the textiles skip.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 27/10/2019 15:03

I donate wearable clothes to a charity shop & put unwearable stuff in a clothing bin. I think charities can still 'rag' unwearable clothes for money.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/10/2019 15:03

I send good things to a charity shop and cut up anything not suitable to donate to use as cleaning rags.

fixyourgardengate · 27/10/2019 15:04

Stuff that's good enough to sell goes to one of the 8 charity shops within walking distance of my house. Stuff that's knackered goes to the rag bin at our supermarket.

Butteredtoast55 · 27/10/2019 21:51

Another one for charity shops or donations to a friend who works with refugee families, and anything that is unsuitable goes to a school fundraiser which collects bags of textiles that are weighed to raise money for the school.

katkit · 27/10/2019 21:53

Tatty stuff gets cut up for cleaning cloths. Feel both smug and a bit ashamed about it.

LiveRightNow · 27/10/2019 21:54

Charity shops or I have a few friends with kids younger than mine that get any decent clothes my kids have grown out of. (If they want them!). Old clothes are labelled rags or I cut up & use as cleaning cloths at home.

DonPablo · 27/10/2019 22:00

Posh stuff: sell on
Decent stuff: pass on
Wearable but not passable on - able:charity shop
Cotton vests and t-shirt: cut up for rags
Unsuitable for all of the above? Send to those rag places that weigh it in.

firstimemamma · 27/10/2019 22:01

If clothes are no good for the charity shop, h and m do a clothes recycling scheme.

ShinyGiratina · 27/10/2019 22:07

Better stuff to charity shop.
More worn stuff to the clothing bank bins.

LeGrandBleu · 27/10/2019 22:08

Good clothes, such as jumpers, shirts, dresses, shorts,... I usually give to friends who have teenage girls, because I am very slim and stylish.
My jackets or smart skirts, I give to charities for those going back to work such as www.suitedforsuccess.co.uk/donate-a-suit

Clothes that are ruined for any reason, I bring to H&M and I receive a voucher for each bag. This is a very good scheme for old socks, underwear, or any textile as they recycle the fabric.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/10/2019 22:08

Mine generally get worn till they fall apart. My sons mostly get given away to friends who have skinny children or to the charity shop. Never sold any but do think about it.

bluerad · 27/10/2019 22:15

Good stuff to my mum Smile
Rest to clothes bank

ethelfleda · 27/10/2019 22:19

Charity shop or clothes bank
I’m trying to only replace stuff that is worn out, with good quality stuff that I will hopefully never throw away though.
I used to have a penchant for cheap fashion - lasts one season and doesn’t usually wash well! But I changed the way I shop and now hardly ever get rid of clothes!

DuesToTheDirt · 27/10/2019 22:24

A slight tangent, but when I was a kid I used to hate having to dust with people's old knickers Grin. However many times you wash them they are still knickers!
