So I've just got up to go to the toilet. Husband isn't in bed. Lights are on downstairs. He's fast asleep on the sofa with tv on, computer on but most concerning all the candles are still burning!! I left him up last night as always on a weekend drinking, he works nights during the week so loves his beer at the weekend. I don't particularly like him when he's drunk. He loves candles and there were several lit....they must have been burning for at least 9 hours!! It took some proper shaking for me to wake him so I highly doubt he'd have woken if a fire had started. We have children asleep upstairs. I'm so angry with him and this happens quite alot and quite frankly I'm starting to dislike him very much! :(

I’ve done this loads of time
Gone to bed with a lovely jo malone candle still lit as I’ve forgot to blow out

In the morning mainly cross that I’ve wasted such a lovely expensive candle! Although lounge smelt divine!

Your problem is your husband
Your dislike of him drips off your post (no pun intended)

Strangerthingshere · 27/10/2019 05:18

I would be annoyed too, its irresponsible.

MissLadyM · 27/10/2019 05:26

It's horribly dangerous and I'd be furious. I once fell asleep on the sofa with a candle (a posh one!), it had only been burning 4 hours but the glass shattered. I nearly what myself. Maybe a tealight in a proper holder would be ok but it's really not worth the risk.

MRex · 27/10/2019 05:26

Candles should always be on a heat resistant mat, in a proper holder and well away from anything that might catch fire from.a spark. If you candles are generally safe then they're probably not much real danger, but I'd feel nervous too. Was he not concerned? Why does he like all those candles and can he have a lamp instead?

Aprillygirl · 27/10/2019 05:29

I’d be worried that in his drunken state he could easily knock one over. Ban the fucking things from the house, it’s really not worth the risk.

Honestly if this happened once then candles were no longer be allowed in the house.
