To ask how you manage to have a dog?

DP and I were briefly talking about rescuing a dog but it has become apparent that the poor dog probably wouldn't want to be left alone for five hours a day.
We also have two cats, two kids and most animal rescue places wouldn't consider us which is fair enough but there are so many dogs who need good homes. Who are these ideal owners they are looking for?
Thinking of all the people I know who have dogs few fit the profile of 'childless, home all day, well off, fit people with loads of outdoor space.' So therefore what's the answer?
Obviously the long term answer is to spay and neuter and try to stop people getting dogs on a whim. But on the whole 'adopt don't shop' matter, if they turn away so many people then those people will just turn to puppy mills/ gumtree.

We wanted a rescue dog. Unfortunately the only dog we were allowed (due to having children) was a whippet who murdered a small dog. If I wanted him, i had to ensure 6ft garden fences both sides and never to walk off the lead. That was a no from me and I bought a puppy instead.

Doggy daycare. Parents also help.

How would your cats react? Is it fair on them to introduce a dog into their home?

Try Dogsblog op,you can search by age,breed(most are cross breeds).
Or the greyhounds can be left longer but with two cats probably not a good idea.😊

My husband has worked from home for 12 years. I am now also home based. We love hiking and UK holidays. We don’t have kids and can give our dog the attention, love and exercise she needs to be happy. But I agree, if people get turned away by rescues, they’ll just buy a puppy. Our friends were desperate to adopt a lurcher. They visited him 3 times but the rescue turned them down. They bought a puppy instead who they walk for 90 mins a day and are excellent dog owners 🤷🏼‍♀️

Doggy daycare, one or two days a week.

@BeesKnees4
The very fact a dog has ripped from everything they know and placed in a shelter for whatever reason is considered trauma

Most reputable dogs' homes won't allow people with young children to adopt because the risk of rehoming a dog with an unknown past is too great where young children are involved.

One only has to think of the tragic case of four-year-old Lexi Branson, who was killed by a 'rescue' bulldog. The failings in this case are the stuff of legends.
