Teachers are you enjoying half term?

What are you not missing from the classroom?

Ahhhhh - being told to piss off, then when I give said treasure an after school detention their parents complain and hey! The school decided it was my fault because challenging on his behaviour and asking him to work was, in deed, pissing him off!!!

Actually, though, I love my job. Yesterday was staff training, though, and we all moaned all day....... Half term is most welcome this year!!!

MissRamsden · 26/10/2019 11:12

I would be livid with my child if he did that @Rabbitwoman. Are you primary or Secondary?

I actually needed half term to escape my year 6s😁

I was told to fuck off by one of my delights. I actually really like him as a child and he often makes me laugh. His reasoning for telling me to fuck off was that I was annoying him. Had to bite my tongue to refrain from telling him that he and his classmates annoy me on a daily basis and I’m not allowed to tell them to fuck off.

pippitysqueakity · 26/10/2019 11:20

Enjoyed it last week. Fed up now it’s over, nothing to do with children, just want to be at home with my own.

whydobirds · 26/10/2019 11:21

I'm SLT so been in most days for 10-12 hours straight but it has been nice to work at a slightly less relentless pace and I've enjoyed actually being able to finish things in the sitting I started them in.

Samsamsuperman · 26/10/2019 11:21

Yes, loving it and desperately needed. We get 2 weeks - heaven.

MissRamsden · 26/10/2019 11:21

@BeingAtwat
That has made me chuckle

@Samsamsuperman

We get 1 week😒. I really needed the break, so tough being pregnant

Tbh though, I'm not 'not missing' anything from the classroom- we have a lovely bunch of kids (SEN school) and it is a joy every day to see how they are developing and growing in confidence.

It is relentless though and I live for the school holidays to catch up...

rabbitwoman · 26/10/2019 11:24

Oh, I am secondary. But I am cover supervisor..... So seen as incompetent by staff and students alike and probably unable to control a class anyway.....

But I do love being in a classroom with kids, they are occasionally horrible but mostly sweet, funny and interesting. I do enjoy doing different things every day and thinking on my feet, being resourceful, but rushing around the place from science to French to drama and then back to maths is exhausting and a half term break is absolutely essential to avoid a nervous breakdown!!

I do get bored over the summer though. The last two weeks I am desperate to get back to work and get stuck in. I think the summer is too long and we should have extra holidays at other points in the year .....

CalamityJune · 26/10/2019 11:28

Not missing the commute. Other than that I don't feel bad about going back. It's nice to not have the relentless pace but I have a toddler anyway so half terms aren't exactly relaxing.

It's a long next half term so trying not to think about it too much.

MissRamsden · 26/10/2019 11:31

@Rabbitwoman

It’s funny how we miss it. I actually went on a rant yesterday (hormones all over the place). I said “if you all love sharpening pencils so much, you can all stay in at lunchtime and sharpen them “ 😁

Musmerian · 26/10/2019 11:39

I’m very much enjoying it. It felt like a long half term. It’s great not having to get up at 6 and to just mooch around. We get a week and a half as well so time to unwind properly.

I love it though and will be ready to get back.

Inferiorbeing · 26/10/2019 11:42

Teaching my bastard year 10s every single day who hate maths and can't stop sleeping/arguing with each other! But also I then feel for them because some of them will now have a week of being ignored by parents or in a difficult home life..

rabbitwoman · 26/10/2019 11:42

@MissRamsden

Hahaha! I do that when the cheekier ones are trying to distract me by engaging me in conversation for the whole hour so I don't make them work. Hmmmm

'how nice that you are so interested in what made me want to be a teacher. Of course, you have to do your work now, but come back at lunchtime and I will tell you all about it.'

Noone ever does.

MissRamsden · 26/10/2019 11:44

@rabbitwoman

They all suddenly decided that their pencils were already sharp enough haha x

Mine stand next to me at lunchtime to talk to me. My old class come back to see me. Whilst it’s nice to feel loved, I love my time in my classroom in silence whilst they’re outside.

CleverLoginName · 26/10/2019 11:59

I hope DS teachers are going to have a lovely week off this week

DS however has been set lots of homework to do by week Monday so he doesn't get a break

Poor kid - it's been a long 8 weeks

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 26/10/2019 12:49

We set no homework! They need a break too.

MakeItRain · 26/10/2019 13:59

I'm loving half term thank you 😁 I teach little ones so I'm not missing the NOISE! But I do miss the big grins and the cheery, excited hellos I get every single morning, as if they've not seen me for a month! (I have a very lively class!)

nuttybutter · 26/10/2019 14:30

I've been in school working

BG2015 · 26/10/2019 15:11

Finished yesterday. It's been a long 8 week term and we had Ofsted too which was very stressful. I'm ready for a break, read, chill, clean my house and meet up with friends. DP and I are also away in London for 3 nights.

So missing nothing from school. It will all be waiting for me when I walk back into my classroom (along with the smell of vomit I can't get out of my classroom carpet no doubt)

Chanteuse · 26/10/2019 15:29

I am not relaxing as I am moving house 😩 but will be worth it. Looking forward to a nice lie in tomorrow!

Frlrlrubert · 26/10/2019 15:39

@rabbitwoman

Some of us appreciate that cover supervisors do an amazing job. Doing cover is hard, I'm always thankful when I come back to find they've managed to get the class to do the work.

(The one that did the wrong textbook page, stole my good board pens, and gave my calculator away - not so thankful mind)

rabbitwoman · 26/10/2019 17:29

Thank you @Frlrlrubert! And when they have a spare second, teachers and SLT are appreciative often, I am frazzled after having maybe four free periods in the whole of the last eight weeks, but will use this week to get back my positive mental attitude!!!
