Any tips for my 1 year old?

So far we’ve tried banana and toast which has stayed down.

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 25/10/2019 12:33

Plain boiled rice, dry crackers, dry bread

tigglewiggle · 25/10/2019 12:36

Butter on toast, digestive biscuits

SpongeCake23 · 25/10/2019 14:24

What about rich tea biscuits?

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 26/10/2019 11:08

Not butter and not rich biscuits. You’re trying to avoid fat and especially dairy.

Stickybeaksid · 26/10/2019 11:17

BRAT bananas rice apple purée and toast.

Samsamsuperman · 26/10/2019 11:24

Banana rice and toast x

SpongeCake23 · 26/10/2019 18:32

How long does the BRAT diet need to go on for before I can introduce other things?

OP posts:
Insomniacscientist · 26/10/2019 18:35

Be mindful of the possibility of a lactose intolerance after d and v. This is why pp’s are telling you to avoid dairy

dementedpixie · 26/10/2019 18:38

BRAT is too restrictive and not recommended any more. They can have whatever they want as long as it's not too rich or spicy. Avoid fruit juices as that can prolong any diarrhoea. Carbs are good so toast, rice, potato, etc are ok but you dont need to limit to that. What would s/he normally eat?

dementedpixie · 26/10/2019 18:39

Rich tea biscuits are fine and a bit of butter on toast is fine too.

AdaColeman · 26/10/2019 18:44

Toast & jam.
Rice.
Rice & chicken in a day or two.
Plain biscuits.

dementedpixie · 26/10/2019 18:45

What would they normally eat? Offer that

BertrandRussell · 26/10/2019 18:47

Stellini in brodo. But I am foreign.

Pasta stars cooked in chicken stock. Had to make it for by 18 year old yesterday- apparanrky it works for broken hearts as well as tummy bugs.....

EmperorBallpitine · 26/10/2019 18:51

Yum. Pasta in chicken broth is very hydrating and full of goodness so I'm sure it fixes everything!
BRAT is OK for first day, if everything has gone down fine, then cautiously introduce usual foods, sticking to bland, mild things.
My GP husband insists in plain rice as a staple part of a 'recovery' diet for all ages!

confusedandemployed · 26/10/2019 18:55

Meh, so what if BRAT is restrictive. It has always worked to stop the puking in my house, so I'll be sticking with it. It's only for a day or so, I hardly think eating it for a couple of days will cause malnutrition.

SpongeCake23 · 26/10/2019 19:54

Thanks all,

What do I do about his milk though? As he normally has a cow’s milk before bed. He won’t settle without it!

SpongeCake23 · 26/10/2019 19:56

And what about fruit & veg or something like spaghetti hoops?

OP posts:
Serin · 26/10/2019 19:59

BertrandRussell
Aww a bit like chicken soup for the soul.

OP, I've never worried about what to give them, if he feels like milk I would give him some.

dementedpixie · 26/10/2019 20:00

I'd maybe just give a smaller amount of milk

Insomniacscientist · 27/10/2019 02:09

@SpongeCake23 how is the little one now?

HypatiaCade · 27/10/2019 02:48

They did a study on children after a sickness bug, some were given normal food including dairy (milk), and others had dairy excluded. There was absolutely no difference in recovery rates.

So give him milk.

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 27/10/2019 05:01

If I gave mine milk they were sick as dogs.
