Is no hot food a deal breaker?

If a soft play centre didn’t serve hot food at weekends, would it put you off going?

OP posts:
MrsWillGardner · 25/10/2019 11:36

No. Why would it?

SnugglySnerd · 25/10/2019 11:36

Not at all. Why?

fishonabicycle · 25/10/2019 11:38

I thought people went to those places to play, not eat? Weird question.

Sparklingbrook · 25/10/2019 11:39

The 'hot food' at these places is generally not great so no.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/10/2019 11:40

Not at all. As long as I could get a coffee I'd be happy. If I planned to go over lunchtime then as long as the cold dishes had plenty choice I'd be fine with that.

MitziK · 25/10/2019 11:40

I worked at a similar place that provided hot and cold food.

Seriously, you do not want to eat there.

Emmabryant123 · 25/10/2019 11:41

No. I wouldn't buy it even if it was on offer.

HappyPunky · 25/10/2019 11:41

I'd rather have a nice sandwich than a crap greasy pizza and chips.

Brackish · 25/10/2019 11:45

The hot food in my experience is disgusting beige stuff sitting under lamps. The nicest soft play I ever took DS to was when we were still living in London, and did excellent coffee and cakes and a small but good range of sandwiches on decent bread, and child offerings like hummus and vegetables.

DurhamDurham · 25/10/2019 11:49

The hot food is usually, in my experience, awful so I wouldn't worry. As long as there are enough cold options to keep everyone happy that should be fine.
I work for a charity and we took a group of young carers out for a pre Christmas session at soft play. The food was atrocious. A few warm chips and four chicken nuggets which were rock hard. Mashed up jelly for dessert. They were hungry when we left so we went to Nando's which they loved.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 25/10/2019 11:49

No, I'd rather take a sarnie than have to pay for what's usually lukewarm, over-cooked chips and cheap sausages.

abigailsnan · 25/10/2019 11:49

Aren't you caperable of taking your own food in a container ?

Notajogger · 25/10/2019 11:51

Take your own food. The food at those places, hot or cold - just no.

ShowYourselfLucifer · 25/10/2019 12:00

I'm spoilt with our local soft play. The hot, cold and snack menu is fantastic, with everything cooked to order and at reasonable price.
Lots of choice, with something for absolutely everyone.

You can take DC in there from 9am, pay once and let them play for as long as they want, knowing that you can feed them good food whenever they want/need.

Saying that, I wouldn't mind if a soft play didn't sell hot food, we just wouldn't stay long or go as often.
My DD will not eat cold food (sandwiches, salads, picnic style meals) apart from cubes of cheese, so it puts a bit of a limit on it for me.

TulipsTwoLips · 25/10/2019 12:00

Are you setting up a soft play?

Whattodoabout · 25/10/2019 12:00

No, the hot food is always crap.

Whattodoabout · 25/10/2019 12:01

Take your own food.

Most soft plays don’t allow this.

Oysterbabe · 25/10/2019 12:01

The voting options don't make sense.

ReanimatedSGB · 25/10/2019 12:02

Wouldn't bother me as I would plan visits to avoid mealtimes. Though some PP should note that some such centres don't let you bring your own food in and eat it on the premises...

DappledThings · 25/10/2019 12:04

DC2 won't eat sandwiches or anything traditionally "lunchy" like that but they will happily split a jacket potato with bean or tuna between them so I'm always a bit annoyed when that isn't an option!

The library cafe started doing jackets recently and we eat there much more often. Wouldn't be bothered about sausages or pizzas or anything though.

Camomila · 25/10/2019 12:13

We have one local softplay that actually does nice food for children and adults (pesto pasta, salads, falafel etc) and we might all have lunch there.
The ones that only has nuggets/pizza etc I might buy a coffee and DS some pom bears but I'd have a meal at home.

What softplay we choose depends on who we go with - I walk to the local nice food soft play but I usually meet friends at the less nice one as there's free parking and its easier for them.

toomuchtooold · 25/10/2019 12:13

I much, much prefer ones that let you take your own food. Our local one lets you bring in your own food and they also have like a Lidl sandwich toaster and a waffle iron so there is a couple of hot food options. But the best thing is that because it's Germany, and because (like most of the soft plays round our way) it used to be an ice hockey rink, it's still got a drinks license so you can have a beer or a glass of fizzy! I'm just amazed there never seem to be any dad+beer+trampoline disasters...

justmyview · 25/10/2019 12:16

I wouldn't usually eat food in soft play, but if I did, I'd probably prefer a hot panini to a cheese sandwich on (typically) white bread. I'm guessing OP is setting up a soft play. I think best to have some hot food on offer, however limited

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/10/2019 12:17

on the whole no...as long as it has coffee cake and juice we are good.

UpToonGirl · 25/10/2019 12:18

Same as most PP, I wouldn't be bothered as the food is normally crap anyway!

I would be more likely to go somewhere that offered nice teas/coffees maybe a few baked options (cake/scones). Main thing I'm looking for is somewhere clean and safe. Although I must say I try to avoid SP at the weekends and holidays.
