To ask for your tips for dealing with morning sickness and tiredness

I’m about 7 weeks pregnant and am constantly feeling sick and tired. I’ve tried all the usual things to make me feel better, ginger, peppermint tea, crackers etc. and the only thing which is working is salt & vinegar crisps.

This really isn’t healthy for me or the baby so I was wondering if anyone found anything unusual that helped them through?

Lime cordial took the edge off for me. I would also say don’t feel too bad about eating junk if you need to during this early part of pregnancy. Chances are your nausea will ease off soon and you can have the diet you want throughout the rest of the pregnancy. Do what you need to to get through the day atm.

I tried my morning sickness like a hangover as that was how I constantly felt. Lots of lemonade and snacks to get through - I normally felt worse it my stomach was empty.

Also you need lots of water. I would try and get my daily consumption by lunch time to stop headaches coming in the afternoon.

If anyone says to eat ginger biscuits, punch them in the face. It really helps. Grin

I found lemonade ice lollies really helped and some fizzy drinks. Boiled sweets for when the funky smells of cooking made me heave. Basically loads of sugar, which isn't the best advice! Crackerwheat worked for my first pregnancy as it tastes like flavourless polystyrene so wasn't offensive to the overactive pregnancy olfactory system!

I had it for pretty much the whole 9 months. Nibbling bland biscuits helps to avoid the stomach being empty and churning but I also sucked Rowntrees fruit gums (do they still exist?) as it made the inevitable vomiting slightly less unpleasant. It was hit or miss whether I could keep any food down but I stuck to bland things, mainly, that I wouldn't normally eat. I couldn't drink tea or coffee so I drank hot Ribena most of the time.

Nothing helped the tiredness apart from resting where I could. Much easier in first pregnancy. Having a couple of biscuits by the bed to eat before getting up helped. I craved marmite on toast and actually vitamin B6 in marmite is good for nausea. Try not to worry about the less than perfect diet. Do what you need to do and get back to more balanced eating once the nausea eases off.

@Monsterinmyshoe that really made me laugh!

Ice lollies sounds like a good shout. I’ve actually been meaning to try freezing some grapes. Will get both of them today I think.

I don’t like lime but I agree about feeling constantly hungover. My go to hangover cure is a McDonald’s coke and salty chips. I reckon they’ll help too but again not the healthiest are they.

Do what you need to (within reason!) to get through this phase then try to eat healthier when you're feeling better. Watch the caffeine though obvs.

I agree with cold fruity things like ice lollies - but for me nothing really helped to be honest and I quickly felt like punching anyone who dared to say ‘ginger biscuit’ to me Grin distraction and fresh air was probably the best thing, but easier said than done when your body is telling you to stay in bed/on the sofa feeling sorry for yourself.
