Good news that Quick Quid are retreating back to the US to fleece vulnerable people!
Now for the other pernicious lenders to fuck off like Bright House, Provident, Money Shop etc.

AIBU to be glad?

The problem with Brighthouse (or at least they did this 10 years ago) is they will hound the people who act as your references. They're not guarantors and in no way responsible for the finance agreement but Brighthouse will put pressure on them if the person reneges on the agreement. Absolute bunch of sharks.

My only fear would be that, without payday lenders, will vulnerable people fall into the clutches of unlicensed loan sharks - with even worse 'interest rates', no regulator and the threat of violence?

What we need are more credit unions.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 25/10/2019 16:59

It's a real shame that credit unions aren't more widely available and advertised, but as they aren't lucrative like the big scum companies, they wouldn't have the budget for advertising.

I'd love to see somebody like Martin Lewis open up a nationwide chain of fair low-cost loans; problem with that, though, is that some people's circumstances mean that any loan is likely to be unaffordable for them. The bully-boys deliberately target folk in straitened circumstances, knowing very well that they'll make their lives far worse in the end and that some of the money they loan won't ever be repaid; but their rates are so high, they can well afford to lose it. That's the cold financial side of it. As for the social, caring, humanitarian side of what they do.... answers on a postcard.

Absolutely more credit unions.
Those who can afford to save, even a little bit should be saving with credit unions more too.
I don't think they are publicised enough and certainly not in comparison to the loan companies.

Quick quick think!

Shopacheck is still going under a different name

@Stickytoffeepuddingyum it was just in the news the money box fella,
Quick Quid have gone into receivership so you have to pay back. The parent company will try to cover compensation claims but they can't be forced to, you still have to pay though.
You still get shafted but they saunter off to pastures new.
