To not call 111?

Sorry for using AIBU, posting for traffic as it's so late. My DD 10 months woke up at 11.45 and when I went into her and picked her up she felt boiling hot. I stripped her down to nappy and she has a red rash all over her tummy and back and she has very red cheeks. I've googled meningitis rash and it doesn't look like that, and when I press her skin my fingers leave white marks so I think that means the rash blanches which is good? It looks like heat rash.

When I first took it her temp was 39.2 but I gave her some neurofen and took temp again after 30 mins and it had dropped to 38. Gave her a small bottle of milk which she took and drank it all. She seems her usual self, she took ages to go back down as she was messing around with her dummy etc. I have put her back to bed now in a lighter weight sleeping bag so she doesn't overheat but I wanted to still give her some covers as it's quite chilly tonight.

I was all ready to go back to bed and to sleep finally with the intention of checking on her in an hour or two, but then I saw this on NHS website (see pic). It says to get an urgent GP appointment if baby has high temp and other symptoms such as a rash. Suggests 111. Do I need to call them? Or just take her in the morning if no improvement? I know if I do call they will make me go through the motions of waking her etc when I have just spent nearly an hour getting her back to sleep so I am very confident that she is alert, responsive etc but they make you wake them anyway! Sorry if IABU to ask but she is my first so not sure what to do. Thanks

A baby with a rash, yes, 111 at a minimum

A sleep bag and covers, when she has a temperature is way to much.

You have a sleep bag or covers, not both

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:08

Sorry I wasn't clear in my post, she only has a 1.0 tog sleeping bag on, no additional covers

OP posts:
bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:08

I meant that I didn't want to put her down without anything at all

OldAndWornOut · 25/10/2019 02:10

I would call them, just to be on the safe side.
Plus, you'll be awake and monitoring her whilst you're phoning, which is a good thing.

RainbowMum11 · 25/10/2019 02:11

I would always call 111 in this situation, hopefully it's nothing serious & is a virus, but always better to check it out.

Theresnobslikeshowbs · 25/10/2019 02:16

Better to be safe than sorry. I would just have her in a sleep suite until her temp comes down

KnowMenClature · 25/10/2019 02:16

All the rash and red cheeks could be heat.

Does she have any other symptoms? Has her temp come down more?

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:16

I just went back into her and checked her temp again and it's gone down to 37.0

OP posts:
managedmis · 25/10/2019 02:18

Did you check the rash?

managedmis · 25/10/2019 02:19

Is she teething?

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:19

Thanks for responses, no she has no other symptoms, she took her milk fine, no vomiting or diarrhoea, she was very responsive and alert, kicking and rolling about the place when I stripped her off. I would normally call 111 with this sort of thing but DH always makes me feel like I'm over reacting and being all PFB. I showed him the NHS website and he was saying "yes but it's not a meningitis sort of rash" and I was saying yes I know it's not but that's not what is says!

OP posts:
KnowMenClature · 25/10/2019 02:19

I would just keep an eye on her personally.

Her temp seems under control, shes drinking, settled to sleep after some activity, I'd be happy with that and wake again in an hour or two to check her again.

Russell19 · 25/10/2019 02:19

Do you have a thermometer in her room? Is the heating on? Might be the room is too hot.

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:20

@managedmis no I didn't check the rash, I would need to undo the sleeping bag and her sleepsuit so I think it would wake her. She nearly woke up when I took her temp

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 02:22

I'd be worried and call 111.

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:22

@managedmis yes she has been teething quite badly for what seems like weeks now but no temp up until today

@Russell19 room definitely isn't too hot, heating hasn't been on since 8pm, it's chilly enough in there that I need to wear my dressing gown over my PJs to not be cold. Haven't got a proper room thermometer but got one of those ones that comes free with a grobag and it says around 18ish

KnowMenClature · 25/10/2019 02:23

You're meant to be worrying! Grin

It's your job and a new one for you so try not to give yourself a hard time.

If that were my baby, I would remain alert about the temp, but with no other symptoms, just watch and wait. It's better if she can sleep it off as much as possible and you rest in bed.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 02:25

Never saw a rash with teething with mine.

managedmis · 25/10/2019 02:25

Fair enough re checking the rash

I'd probably just keep an eye and an ear out : temp reduced, she's had milk etc.

I do remember my two being a bit rashy when they were teething, and a raised temp too, so it could be that

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:26

@managedmis she is quite a heat rashy baby in general, when we had the hot weather in the summer she was forever getting a rash. So I wondered if it might just be the fact that she is hot?

Mummymumm · 25/10/2019 02:38

If you ring 111 they'll tell you to go to a&e regardless of her other symptoms. I was told by an a&e doctor that 111 will always send under one's to hospital if they have a rash. Even if they don't need to. If she's feeding and responding well probably best just to keep an eye on her.

bananallamas · 25/10/2019 02:42

Thanks everyone. I just went back into her again and managed a ninja move of undoing her sleeping bag and sleepsuit without waking her (it was very close!) so I could check the rash. It's hard to see properly without putting all the lights on fully but if anything it seems like the rash has faded rather than got worse. I expect I'll still be up all night checking on her though!

My DS is quite a ‘rashy’ baby so I was forever on google images comparing his rash to the meningitis one. Then I was told that when it’s meningitis, the rash is one of the last symptoms to appear and by that point you’d probably already be at the hospital Bcos your baby would already be so ill. I’m a worrier but if it blanches it’s usually a good sign

KnowMenClature · 25/10/2019 03:10

There are just sooo many rashes, but yours is fading and likely due to heat.

It's a high temp though so if thats unusual for your baby just keep a watch, and its likely to come up again once the paracetamol wears off.

Oysterbabe · 25/10/2019 03:16

Sounds like a virus. I would watch and wait in this scenario.

I remember when my pfb got her first viral rash and I rushed her to an emergency GP appointment, expecting them to be all 'OMG a rash. We need fluids and an IV stat'
Instead they were like 'she has a virus. 🤷‍♀️ Is she your first?'
