Are schools allowed to show children a trailer for a film which is rated above the age range of the class?
By around 2 years.
DC now wants to watch the film but given its a horror and pegi rated older I am not so sure. AIbU not to let them watch the film?

Here, there are movie trailers that are for the intended agree range, and then there are ones that are intended for all audiences. If it's all "all audience" one, I wouldn't think the moving rating matters, beside the trailer was considered appropriate. Why is he watching movie trailers at school?

Trailers don't always have the same rating as the film (often one lower) - in a cinema this means the trailer can be shown to a wider audience so that it reaches potential customers. If it's being shown in a purely school environment and it's (e.g.) a 15 film trailer being shown to 13 year olds, that might be a bit foolish of the school.

If you look at this page for JOKER and click on the Trailers section you can see there are trailers rated 15 and one rated 12A.

As a former secondary school media teacher, I can reliably inform you that schools do not, by law, have to comply with age ratings of films at all. Most do, as a courtesy to parents, but there are no repercussions against it.

When I taught media, loads of the stuff we had to show the kids/chose to show the kids was above the age rating, as it would have been applied in a cinema. Most years we sent out letters at the start of the course informing parents of a list of sources the kids would study, but again, it was only a courtesy.
