AIBU to think that the Willys should be moved?

There are two branches of Poundland near us. Both stock a range of hen party type products, Penis straws, penis deelie boppers etc. Both stores display them on a low/middle shelf opposite sections that are for kids. One lot is situated directly opposite the toys and in the other store they are situated opposite the kids craft equipment.
AIBU to think that if they are going to sell them they should be situated elsewhere? My DS (11) asked me why they sell them and said that he thinks its inappropriate opposite the little kids toys etc.
They have been positioned like this for months now. On one occasion I was in Poundland without the kids (my life is that glamorous) and spoke to the manager. I mentioned that it's maybe not the ideal place for them. She said that she agreed and has had lots of complaints but when she has questioned it with her superiors they insist that, that is the plan for the store so that's where they are displayed.

Just want to throw my two pennies in (a bit late) but I remember seeing this kind of stuff on holiday as a child. Plastic willies, inflatable willies, blow up dolls (stag do I think) etc and apart from the embarrassment my Granddad faced at answering my very loud questions about them - I seem to recall my reaction was to laugh, say “eurgh gross!” and then not really think of it again...

I’m not saying the store is right to place them so close to kids toys, rather weird choice as there are plenty of other places they could put them in the store, but I don’t think it’s enough to mentally scar a child either - but then again maybe I was just a weird kid?

These were sigtings in the middle of the day on trips to places like Blackpool, Ingoldmells, Scarborough etc.

No they shouldn’t recognise it as an erect penis but it doesn’t look like something they already possess or will have seen before (girls). So either they know what it is (worrying) or you have to explain what it is, and frankly Poundland is not the place or time for discussions with small children around genitals and sex.

If they don’t recognise it but want to know, then I am sure there is absolutely no problem whatsoever and parents in this position are just whining

If people honestly think that an erect veiny penis is just in the same category as a child’s penis or breast out for breastfeeding or all manner of other objects people will compare it to then that is completely your call

But other people don’t like it and that is theirs, which is ok

georgialondon · 25/10/2019 13:58

@MintyMabel have you actually seen them? They are cartoon style not erect penises cut and pasted from a porn website. HmmGet a grip.

MintyMabel · 25/10/2019 14:12

@georgialondon

Again irrelevant. The point was “it’s just a body part” which clearly isn’t the case.

You could try explaining what it would impact badly on anyone if they were moved away from the kid’s toys? What difference would it make to your life?

They know what they are because WILLY is written in huge great big letters on the packaging. This is at eye level of the average height 6/7 year old.
Placed in the same aisle as the toys aimed at the same age group.

@MintyMabel so you haven't. Wink. Over and out. I'm wasting my time applying logic where there's none in return Wine happy Weekend all.

I'm off to Poundland to show my kids the willy aisle. It's a Friday tradition. Grin

Ahh, no answer to my question. No good reason not to move them.

Zebraaa · 25/10/2019 16:04

@georgialondon 😂 hope the kids enjoy the willy aisle 😂

@DaphneFanshaw lol at Richard.

My kids just find this sort of merchandise hilarious.

Which is the right and proper response to a penis, in my view.
