To ask town or country?

We've decided it's time to move house - more space and will hopefully be our "forever home". We have 2 DC in primary school, currently local to us. Both DH and I work in different towns to where we live.

Our gut feeling is to find a house in our home town - local to school, friends, family, etc. But properties are considerably more expensive and very limited. Obvs less garden and more enclosed.

Other option is to go into the country more where you get more bang for your buck.

DH grew up in the sticks and hated being so far away from things - admittedly his parents didn't like to act as taxis, but I'm not sure how much I'd like to either.

So AIBU to ask - which would you go for and why? I'm esp keen to hear how you manage in the country with young children and ferrying them everywhere whilst working FT. Thanks

Town but on the edge of the countryside.

Town all the way for me. I grew up in London suburbia, and even though I was only half an hour away from London on public transport - it was a half hour walk to that transport.

We live in a city, if i won the lotto like I wanted to a few weeks ago I would have bought this house I saw that overlooks a park in the city centre Grin

I've done city, town and country living and country wins for me, hands down. I love the extra space we have, seeing fields and cows along our road, the lack of noise we had elsewhere.....

Having said that, I** have neighbours and a village and family aren't too far away. I don't think I could live very rurally - I like to have neighbours nearby and be able to walk to a village shop for milk and bread! I think it really depends on your personality too - is happiest in green areas with nature and not built up - others would hate it!
