Twin birth

Hi I’m 34 weeks pregnant with twins

I was all set for a natural birth was told it would be around 36 weeks

At my meeting yday the consultant told me
That they would wait until 37 weeks to induce me. Now I’m worried my twins are already over 5.5lbs so by then they will be 7 or over. I was also told they have to be careful inducing previous c section mums due to the scare.

Induction team rang me and today to book me in and are looking like 37+4 to induce I think this is too late and also the second twin is breech. I don’t have an appt again until 36 weeks but I am now wanting a section due to this new info can I ring for an appt with my consultant (it’s a busy nhs hospital)

They were fine Smile
Luckily I was fully dilated when it happened and it was twin 1 bleeding out so they suctioned her out pdq! She had to have a blood transfusion.
Twin 2 was born 27 mins later and had to have some blood taken out as she was purple!

Apart from a bit of jaundice at a week old they were fine and 11 now!!

I haven't read the full thread. My daughters were born naturally at 33+5, slightly elder came out head first, slightly younger made a spirited effort to come out sideways. Obstetrician was able to rearrange her from outside (a very weird feeling!!) so she was at least vertical. She actually came out feet first in the end. I'm not too worried, they are both now at Russell Group universities...

pasanda · 26/10/2019 07:40

Well that's ok then. So long as they're at 'Russell group' universities. God forbid they were at an ex poly. I bet you would blame your obstetrician ConfusedHmm

What a twatty comment!

What's that got to do with the thread?

m0therofdragons · 26/10/2019 09:59

My mcda twins were supposedly over 5lbs at 34 weeks yet when they were born (emergency cs as dtd 1 was beach) at 36 weeks after my water broke, dtd1 was 5lb 12 and dtd2 was 4lb 6.

They usually want twins to be at least 37 weeks if possible but want to deliver at that point as the placenta loses viability. A df with non Id twins had her at 40 weeks and both were over 8lbs. She and they were fine but v they won't let id twins go that long.

ScotsinOz · 26/10/2019 11:56

I had my twins by elective caesarean under general anesthetic at 38+5 - 7lb6 and 7lb8. The elective caesarean was my choice, but my anesthetist thought general anesthetic would be better since I was panicking about the epidural (and also much easier for him). Best decision for me and my babies.

Listen to all the Doctors advice, but only do what you are comfortable with. Good luck and congratulations!

MoaningMinniee · 26/10/2019 15:41

The point was they were tiny and went straight to high dependency special care unit and didn't come home for weeks... but still grew up physically healthy.

RolytheRhino · 26/10/2019 19:43

Ah, so not a not-so-stealthy stealth boast then, Minnie?

Although I would argue that you don't have to be physically healthy at all to get into university. Students can have all sorts of disabilities.

Migrainefun · 26/10/2019 19:50

What has being physically healthy got to do with what uni they go to?
I didn't even know what a Russel group uni was and I just googled it and noticed the one I went to is on there, why is it relevant?

Sindragosan · 26/10/2019 20:17

Depends on the hospital trust, but after an emergency csection, I requested a planned csection next time and they got the diary out to book me in. I'd have thought they'd be accommodating with twins rather than risk unnecessary complications and a dash off to theatre. A planned csection is much more civilised than an emergency one, but do ask for steroids beforehand.

Ha, snap! I presumed it was more prestigious than it is based on the way they get talked about on here. Confused
