To celebrate Yaniv losing Yaniv's case?

Comprehensively.

The court found that Yaniv "engaged in improper conduct, filed complaints for improper purposes" and that Yaniv's testimony was "disingenuous and self-serving" as well as "evasive and argumentative and contradicted herself while giving evidence".

Presumably that was something the judge threw in as a side-point. Rather than being part of the reason why the claim of discrimination was dismissed. Because the above doesn't really have anything to do with whether offering services exclusively for one type of genitals is trans-discrimination, or not.

Yes, you're quite right @JAPAB

I was so pleased at the thorough skewering of Yaniv's tactics, that I didn't explain that properly.

The central plank of the decision was that "Human rights legislation does not require a service provider to wax a type of genitals they are not trained for and have not consented to wax,". So that's the human rights angle straightened out.

Hopefully the damage to yaniv's wallet (pocket/shiny sparkly purse) will help ram the court's message into yaniv's brain

Doubt it. Likely just see the whole thing as an unfair example of how even the justice system is 'prejudiced against transpeople.'.

So if Yaniv hasn't overreached and asked for a leg wax in those women's homes, he might have actually won? Shock

I wouldn't want that pervert in my street, let alone my house and I think some of the women had young children.

I might be wrong, but aren't complainants to that tribunal supposed to be acting in good faith? So may be relevant.

Wonder what Flora think...

$2000 Canadian dollars, so £1,187, is a derisory sum for a year of stress and anguish, costs, media exposure, lost business.

I wonder if there is a civil system through which these poor women can sue?

Excellent news and a detestable pervert of a person.

Although this does worry me. A lot.

Great. A victory for common sense. A victory for women. And also a victory for decent genuine trans people who could do without this sort of ridiculousness being entertained in the name of trans rights.

Yes exactly. Let's not forget this racist pervert targeted poor immigrant women, working from their own homes and who lacked the resources to effectively defend themselves without external support.

What happens to the women who settled out of court? I suppose they have lost the right to claim back/sue?

If you read the full judgement, Yaniv's conduct in filing complaints in this way (bad faith, for improper purposes etc) was actually the reason the leg/ arm waxing refusal part was dismissed when ordinarily it might be upheld. So not a side point but central to part of the case.

So glad that sick racist pervert has lost.

This. Targeting immigrant women who work from home, trying to force them to handle male genitals against their consent - that's pretty much a perfect example of how fucking sick this whole business has become.

Anyone who supports Yaniv is a rapey wanker.

I hope the judgement included all the 'self-serving, contradictory stuff' to highlight Yaniv to the system as a vexatious litigant or whatever is the Canadian equivalent.

Hopefully this will be the of the end for him/her, and the legal system will take all the other complaints will be dealt with as well.

YANBU!

The judgement has elided a position on whether or not a woman offering services from her home should be allowed to operate a single sex policy for religious or safety reasons, however. Cousineau threw out the arm/leg wax cases for another reason, so we don't know what she would have said on those ones.

Came on to start a thread about this and found this one underway - many thanks Christa

Thank heavens that common sense is starting to prevail! There is a lot of ground to claw back (eg TW rapists being housed womens' prisons) but had this decision gone the other way, I can't imagine what the outcome would have been.

LangCleg

That's a bit worrying - but maybe it gives the court breathing space so that pressure can be brought to change what is a very dangerous and ill-thought out law.

Agree, nobody should be forced to allow anyone in their home if they make them feel uncomfortable.

It's interesting, one of the defendants initially accepted the appt with no issue about Yaniv being trans because she assumed that meant surgically transitioned. She then cancelled the appointment because she found Yaniv's behaviour concerning and didn't want him in her home- this was upheld because his behaviour was indeed creepy and she didn't even have to get into what waxes she was qualified to do. So maybe a glimmer of hope?

I drank a bit too much wine last night in celebration.
