Not sure what I could have done to help them if they were drug addicts. I didn't even know, which is why I'm asking.
I have to cycle through this area as it is where I work, and live fairly locally as well. I could go through a busier route, but that would have the danger of traffic, and more pollution.
Honestly, despite it having a reputation and being very deprived I feel pretty safe there, as I live not too far away. I know lots of people in the area: it's very friendly, unlike more affluent areas in my experience.
I know there is a lot of crime, especially gang related crime, but I hope that as someone who is not involved with that, that I am safe.
I'm just wondering whether this is sensible, or foolish. It seems a fair few posters here think it is foolish.
For reference, it's not an alley, just a footpath, so it is open, but quiet and fairly secluded. It's actually quite pretty, with interesting local architecture that I enjoy seeing.
