To think this was dodgy

Cycling home along a secluded footpath in a dodgy area of London. I saw two adults (man and woman) who looked rather shifty. They gave me a guilty look and said hello as I went past (odd to talk to strangers here).

I saw one of them had a pipe partially up his sleeve. Would this be a crack pipe? It was clear, so definitely not a tobacco pipe. What is is smoked with a pipe? Or what else could this be.

I realise I'm pretty naive. I'm just wondering if I should stop cycling this route. It's nice and peaceful and away from traffic though.

Are you certain it was a "clear pipe" and not a "clear" electronic cigarette? My ecig is "clear" as in it's in a transparent style of design, see through etc.

Either way, why are you surprised? The world is a messed up place, sadly some people take illicit drugs, it isn't right but it's happening and what's more is it's happening in all of our communities from the working class to the upper crust. That is the reality, I don't understand why you'd be so surprised!

Honestly, why risk going down a 'secluded alley' in a place you have admitted is a dodgy part of London? Nothing good will come of it, eventually at least!

I'd rather deal with people on crack or meth than drunk men any day. Having had to deal with vast quantities of both for decades.

Keep a muggers wallet if you're worried. 10 quid in a cheap wallet. Real one stashed somewhere.

How about you focus on the fact no harm came to you but your choosing to chat shit rather than ask people what could help this situation I'm setting up a mum site for real humans with real hearts I think

Cracks a lot more common than people think. We had two blokes smoking it in the public car park early evening out the back of my workplace! And it’s not a dodgy area in the slightest. But as other posters have said, you’d smell it. It has the most god awful smell that could give you a migraine.

Not sure what I could have done to help them if they were drug addicts. I didn't even know, which is why I'm asking.

I have to cycle through this area as it is where I work, and live fairly locally as well. I could go through a busier route, but that would have the danger of traffic, and more pollution.

Honestly, despite it having a reputation and being very deprived I feel pretty safe there, as I live not too far away. I know lots of people in the area: it's very friendly, unlike more affluent areas in my experience.

I know there is a lot of crime, especially gang related crime, but I hope that as someone who is not involved with that, that I am safe.

I'm just wondering whether this is sensible, or foolish. It seems a fair few posters here think it is foolish.

For reference, it's not an alley, just a footpath, so it is open, but quiet and fairly secluded. It's actually quite pretty, with interesting local architecture that I enjoy seeing.

Yes. You, your bike, your purse, your phone would all be of interest to people needing to raise funds for their next fix.

You’re not going to listen it seems though, so there’s not a lot more to say.

Wilma, I never said that, I said it's just about weighing up the possible danger of this, versus traffic.

Just FYI it could of been weed in a glass pipe and doesn’t smell strong if smoked along as opposed to burnt with tobacco which somehow carries the smell and makes it stronger.

Therefore it could of been people smoking a plant which they home grew themselves (I’m sure the law is that you’re allowed to grow under 9 plants yourself for personal use?) and at least they were friendly Grin
