My family and I are very lucky in that we seem to have fabbo immune systems, maybe 1 cold a year each max. So 3wks after exposure to chicken pox my dd is looking slightly spotty this evening and DS possibly a bit but might just be seaside scratches from the weekend so can't quite tell yet.
And I am so chuffed! Kinda like 'this is what parenting is all about isn't it?' I am so looking forward to buying 'stuff' and putting them on the sofa with the 'ill blanket' and being all nursey at them. Meanwhile, they will be suffering .

Do I have Munchausens-by-proxy? (Or maybe just fleas?)

Saying that, I would not deliberatly expose a baby or young toddler (under about 2) to it.

melpomene- As Bookworm said, If you catch it as a child doesn't neccesarily mean you wont catch it again.
I had CP twice in childhood and still caught it as an adult only much much worse.

I had a friend who had arranged a party for one of her DC and another had caught CP. She went ahead with the party and i refused to attend with my DD who was 6 months old at the time.
She also said that it would be better to expose my DD to it and get it over and done with.
TBH my DD was quite a cranky baby and i really didn't fancy CP Thrown into the mix as well, so chose to stay at home.

My DD is 4yo now and still hasn't had it.If she does go on to catch it i will deal with it when it happens. Who knows she be one of the lucky one's and never catch it.
I would not delibrately expose a child to the disease.

Bouquetsofdynomite, I can understadn where you are coming from. I don't know if ds has had chickenpox, as we think he had a spot ortwo when he was 6 mnths old and still being breast fed, so we don't know if he got it and fought it off with his own immunity, or just "used" mine, though the antibodies in my breast milk. He went thorugh another few boutso fo exposure at the childmindrs without ever getting spots - so we just don'#t know.

When I was young, my dad (a doctor) used to make sure we went to school whenever there were any boutso fo the various childhood diseases going round, as he wanted us to catch them early. I think I even had measles and mumps, as I pre-date the MMR.

I had mumps when I was 9 months old. My mum was quite upset as it was my first Christmas and I look totally miserable in all the photographs of me (as well as having a face twice the size it should have been). I don't remember measles being much of a pain though - I was 4 and remember quite excited about showing the doctor my tummy - and I even got German measles which didn't prevent my being given the Rubella jab later on. It's not so long since children used to die from these illness though .

Mind I used to love being 'ill' as a child since it was the only time we were allowed to drink Lucozade (what they now call Original flavour). I don't know now how I managed to drink it. It's disgusting and over-sugary - or is that my adult tastes speaking? .
