3 miscarriages this year, all ended at 6 weeks

We have just found out we lost our 3rd baby at 6 weeks. The second was a missed miscarriage so we found out at 11 weeks but the baby didn't survive passed 6 weeks then as well. I was told to take aspirin and cyclogest this time but it didn't change anything.

I feel so down about it because we are seeming to get pregnant every time we try which I am very grateful for, but we can't seem to get much further. We are both 30 and healthy so don't feel like it can be "just bad luck" every time! We have been recommended Dr Shehata to test my natural killer cells amongst other things. I wondered if anyone has had any success with him and what your thoughts were as it is really expensive!

Thank you in advance!

To echo what keo said about thyroid issues it's suggested under 2 is best to support a pregnancy, I know a lot of patients who's GP will refer for fertility treatment under 2.5 as that's what they see as 'normal' but we then have to get it under 2 before we will commence treatment (I work in a fertility clinic) I'm sure there are people who have had successful pregnancies with it higher but it is recommended it's kept under 2

Hi guys, I have had my thyroid tested and it is 4.71 so seemingly all good there and the nurse said she is so impressed with all the other thyroid readings! So annoyingly still no answers.

I had the same, three miscarriages all ending at an early stage, the next time I got pregnant the doctor put me on aspirin straight away and I ended up having a full term healthy pregnancy, maybe worth checking out with your doctor?
I’m sorry for your losses.

HarrietM87 · 23/10/2019 08:10

@charlie284 4.71 is too high - that’s actually outside the normal range - you need to go back and see your GP.

@keo8260 and @lauren83 not to derail this too much - 1.1-2is recommended, I agree. I only took issue with the statement that 2 is the “minimum needed to sustain a pregnancy” because that is categorically wrong - check with an endocrinologist.

charlie284 · 23/10/2019 08:37

@harrietM87 ok I will take it with me to Dr Shehata and let him assess it as my gp seemed very happy with it which is strange if you say it’s too high. Thank you for your advice.

@charlie284 these are the reference ranges for normal thyroid function:

www.btf-thyroid.org/information/quick-guides/97-thyroid-function-tests

As we’ve said on this thread, when ttc its better to be closer to 2, but if you’re above 4 that’s abnormal even if not ttc.

charlie284 · 23/10/2019 10:13

@HarrietM87 ok I have just looked and seems like I was confused at all the numbers. My FT3 is 4.71, TSH is 0.899, FT4 is 17.4

So actually a bit low it seems then. Thank you for your help though I’ll flag this up with the doctor.

@charlie284

Hi Charlie,

I've also like you had losses and been to see the DR.

We found the NHS couldn't find anything wrong with us.

Myself and my partner both had the tests done, his come back completely fine however mine came back boarderline high NK activity. I am on DR S high plan. I didn't fall this month but am hoping next month.

I am feeling more optimistic now than I was before which I also think plays a massive role. How much progesterone was your taking? xx

PinkCrayon · 23/10/2019 10:24

My relative had recurrent miscarriages, 5 in fact. all tests came back fine. Dr put her on baby aspirin and that seemed to do the trick. Good to see it worked with other people on here too.
Best of luck op hope it happens for you soon.

charlie284 · 23/10/2019 10:28

@chlo04 - I think having a plan of action does add some hope which really helps and I am hoping that he can provide that for us too. Best of luck next cycle I hope you have your bfp!

I was taking x2 400mg pessaries per day, one in the morning one in the evening. I really thought that would do the trick!

@charlie284 sounds like it isn't low progesterone too!

I also tried that before I went to him and didn't work for me either!!!

I recommend going to see him, however just to warn you after our first appointment we did get a £2800, we knew it would be pricey but after the amount of testing I had we would of thought that it wouldn't of been that much! Be worth it in the end though !

charlie284 · 23/10/2019 10:56

@chloe04 - if you don't mind me asking which tests did you have?

I know its going to be expensive but it is eye watering isn't it for no real guarantee!!

Hi all,

Just had my fourth miscarriage. I have three kids. One conceived no issues. The other two I took steroids, aspirin, progesterone and Clexane. No tests done but a private consultant prescribed re just in case to cover any underlying issues. I fell pregnant unexpected and it was harder to get the medication this time. I got the progesterone but by the time I pursuaded a GP to prescribe the Clexane I no longer felt pregnant so I didn’t take it (decided to save it in preparation for taking earlier next time). I couldn’t get the steroids this time so I’m going private to see if I can get those ready for next time. All my miscarriages have been empty sacs (bar one ectopic). Does anyone know what issue this tends to be linked with? Also does anyone know the cost for the NK cell test with Dr Quenby and an appointment with her? Many thanks x
