To look at a house near a big electricity pylon

Obviously no harm in looking but should I just rule this house out? I’m not worried about the health issues (if indeed there are any) as it’s hundreds of feet away. But will it be a problem to sell? Photo attached.

My last house was closer than that to a pylon. Lived there for eight years without any issue other than a bit of a buzzing sound when it was foggy. No issues selling it either.

I'd be right in for it - brilliant way to get a cheaper house because people are scientifically illiterate.

misspiggy19 · 22/10/2019 12:23

Wouldn’t even consider it.

Go for it, but make sure the price reflects it! We got a fantastic deal on a property that backs on to a large industrial unit. In every other aspect the house was perfect and way beyond anything we'd otherwise have been able to afford. The key for us was doing our research and being happy with our decision, and purchasing at a price which reflected potential future selling ability. For us that what about £60k less than comparable properties without the industrial unit near them.

It wouldn’t bother me at all.

tentedthings · 22/10/2019 12:32

It would totally put me off !

What bollocks .. I live near some pylons (not quite as big as those but there are atleast 5 of them ) and they are closer to our houses than the one in your picture and I can only hear them sometimes and only if I’m walking past them and that’s coming from someone who has misophobia and is very sensitive to sound .
If the house was otherwise perfect I’d take it but yes, you’d still find it a bit harder to see but surely you can’t even really see it from the house ?

FizzyIce · 22/10/2019 12:33

*harder to sell

HeyMissyYouSoFine · 22/10/2019 12:36

Thanks, everyone. I’m struggling to know what to do as in lots of other ways it’s perfect (on paper anyway).

I'd go look at it.

There may be some other issue that rules it out that isn't clear till seen - and I'd also want to see if they were visible from house - from the photo I don't think the wires are over head but that would be something to check as well.
