To want to learn how to ride?

I'm away for a few days visiting my best friend who moved away six montha ago.

This morning he took me for a ride on his almost new Harley Davidson and I am in LOVE!

It felt like nothing I've ever experienced before, complete freedom - like i was flying. The gutteral throb of the engine, the world zipping past and the danger - though i had on all correct safety gear - it was just amazing. My face ached from smiling so much!

It was such an exhilarating feeling and i can't wait to experience it again - so much so that I'm contemplating getting lessons and a bike of my own.

WIBU, as a woman of 42 with four kids, to do this?

Do it! I have ridden bikes for 30 odd years and you are right, nothing beats the sensation. Life is for living.

Go to your local HD dealership, they do female led courses and you can join Ladies of Harley. My family are all HOG members and I grew up around bikes.

I rode bikes from 16 to 25, for transport and fun. I loved it.
But now I’m a mum, with a mortgage and a job, no. For me the risk is too high. I know my reflexes have slowed since my teens. And there are so many drugged up or uninsured drivers on the road.
A crash could leave you with a 6 month recovery time. Who would pay the mortgage or look after the dcs? Would you lose your job?
I do understand though, early Sunday mornings biking through the Brecons, bliss Smile

Do it.
You can do a CBT for 120quid and get a small bike, 125cc, before taking your test so you learn at your own pace.

Do it! I'm 38, learned a few years ago.

Warning: Harleys are pretty and make a great noise, but are absolute rust magnets and £££.

I rode a Honda Shadow 750 for a few years, but I'm too long of leg for that really. I have a Bandit 600 now, but covet a Triumph America.

Start off simple - go and do your CBT. They'll teach you how to ride. I'd recommended having some time (I had a year) on a 125cc bike to see whether your actually enjoy it or not and get some good road experience before you pay out to dry the big test.
