the internet

I am not talking about the dark web or anything like that. I’m talking about the ‘creator content’ situation going on. Ok sorry if this gets deep or confusing Grin

The concept of the internet being endless is weird to really think about, but it’s the addiction of it that sometimes you think about and it blows your mind. You go on to look at something random and then fall into a hole of clicking on the next video on and on

I’m a victim of it - I found myself this evening watching a Barcroft video (short documentaries) about a guy who has had extensive plastic surgery to look like a member of BTS and has decided to become a KPOP star. It’s actually really quite sad and he is getting a lot of hate for it

Then I see the thing called TikTok where people are just creating endless endless content of absolute shite. So we (collective we, the world) are just watching random strangers do random things, most of which is not funny or in any way special.

I am just having one of those existential moments where you think what is the world coming to? Why are we all engaging in this? Why are people doing it and why are we watching it? And it’s not all youngsters either. Adults are doing it too

I understand why people want to use forums, like this one or reddit or Twitter, because you are engaging with one another and that is a natural human desire, to socialise discuss and talk - although we are doing this digitally nowadays. What I am freaked out about is the performing for people that seems to be growing so big. And it doesn’t feel natural or the same as normal interaction or socialising. It’s just watching people, you aren’t actually connecting with them directly. Or are you...? I mean when you go to work, people don’t usually stand up and perform something random for the office to watch and then everyone makes comments on it.. so it’s not something that happens in real life is it, unless you have a talent, like you can sing or dance

(I haven’t had any alcohol before anyone asks) Grin

The internet was at its best in the early 90s, when only people regarded as geeks used it and if you mentioned it in general conversation, you'd get an eye-roll. It used to be a great place to meet fellow social outcasts, but then everyone else got hold of it and ruined it.

The internet can be used for good or bad. How about not wasting time watching rubbish videos if this is how you feel about them? You could use it to learn something new instead.

Agree with PP: the Internet was better in the early 90s in some regards, but it's your choice what you choose to do on it.

Take some responsibility for yourself and either create some better content yourself or stop watching bullshit.
