To think some people on property shows are unrealistic?

I was watching escape to the country the other day...a youngish couple, budget of about £600K, looking for a 'family house'. The one I saw them being shown was 4 bedrooms, garage, big garden, big kitchen diner. But all the way through they kept saying things like 'not big enough for a family', 'box room is too small' and so on.
I was brought up in a 3 bed semi, 5 of us, my brothers shared a room that is literally 10x10 feet, I was in the box room which only had room for my bed, and a tiny drawer unit. My parents were brought up in 2up/2 downs, when they had families of 9!
These people are nuts!

For everyone quibbling about house price growth, it's not just how much £3k in 1962 would be worth now, it's specifically about house price inflation.

This is the Zoopla info for the actual house my parents bought in April 1962 for £3k (it was a 3 bed semi)

It last sold in 2002 for £235k (this is the actual sale price, it had an extension by then so had 4 bedrooms and an extra reception room)
The Zoopla estimate of current value is £544k (these always seem inflated to me)

Similarly I bought a 2-bed flat £33k in 1984
I sold it to my sister for £50k in 1996 (after the prices crashed)
She sold it in 2006 for £187k
The most recent one that I saw on the market was just under £300k
(for context, we're in Greater London, just inside the M25)

@LizB62A
I agree, house price inflation is somewhat different to general inflation.
The house DH and I bought for £25 000 when we married in the early 1980's, last sold two years ago for £281 000. This is outside Greater London , about a 50 minute train journey to Liverpool Street.
The ETTC episodes I watched, seemed to often feature people who were moving away from the London area, so their idea of 'reasonable ' house prices may be somewhat skewed because their experience is that houses in their area are so expensive compared to some other areas.

I don’t really watch these programmes any more- they make me feel a bit depressed about my falling apart Edwardian semi ☹️.
I’ve actually been to the woodmans house when it was being built (friend of a friend). That was a truly amazing project especially when you think he did it all on his own or with help from friends. He lived outside for about 3 years while it was being built, so lovely to see how things have turned out.

I love watching "George Clarke's Amazing Spaces". I couldn't live in a house that small, but it's incredible what they can do.

I watch it for Kirsty and Phil....or that thinking woman's crumpets Kevin whatshisname who potters about saying artistic things. Bugger the houses!

We watched one a while back (potentially Love It or List It? There was some kind of refurbishment involved) where the couple very blatantly split up before the programme was over and it just wasn't alluded to. Awfully juicy.
