Do you flush at night

Interested as to the etiquette here... When you're staying at somebody's house. Obviously a good friend or family member. Say there's a bathroom between all bedrooms and you go for a wee in the night, do you flush and risk being anti social and waking them, or so you leave it and risk being anti social leaving a toilet full of wee for the next morning. Genuinely interested in the consensus!

I flush when visiting, but a sort of "half flush" if you know what I mean. I press very lightly on the button until the water starts flowing, then stop quickly. So the loo gets washed out to some extent , but the cistern doesn't get emptied so you don't get the full noisy flush.

As a host I would much prefer a small amount of noise to a toilet full of someone else's smelly wee next morning! I'd probably wake up at the sound of you moving around, anyway.

I go to the toilet a lot during the night. I don't turn on any lights so I always wipe the toilet seat to remove any drips and flush. I would do the same if I was at a friend's house.

I don't know why but it's always bad to go to use a toilet at work or anywhere else to find it's not been flushed. Strange I know, but I usually flush it and then go and use another toilet.

Once visited someone house (not staying overnight) for an afternoon and the y said not to flush the loo (water saving but not money saving reason) which I found a bit weird tbh

Always flush. Most people don’t get woken up by the sound of a toilet flushing. It’s something that you adapt to sleeping through. We have an en-suite and if either DH or I use the toilet in the night the other one rarely wakes up.

Flush. Whether at home or away. Why wouldn't you. How horrible to go into the bathroom in the morning to find the toilet full of someone else's bodily waste.

Not when at home. Ds is a light sleeper in the early hours and he is in the room next to the loo. More recently I'm also more environmentally aware and try not to waste water.

At home we don't flush night were but I would a poo. In others' houses we flush.

Always flush and wash hands no matter where I am and no matter the time. The first time my boyfriend stayed over I discovered he isn’t a night flusher, I (politely) told him to flush in future.

Definitely flush. As I have kids if it wasn't flushed I'd probably stand there and shout 'who hasn't flushed the toilet?' Until the culprit owned up!

Don’f flush wee at night but always wash hands. Probably would flush if staying in someone else’s house.

I really don't know! It's a long time since I've stayed away at anyone's house, except my son's, on one occasion when he was ill. I did go to the toilet (once) in the night and flushed but he was awake anyway.

Generally I don't get up for a wee except if I am having difficulty sleeping, then I'm up a couple of times but at home, it doesn't matter whether or not I flush.

I think I would prefer someone flushing to getting up to a loo with stale wee in it, if there was only one toilet.

Imagine if the lavatory was a....oh gosh, I can't think of the word, just woken up, hope someone else remembers the name ....one of those very noisy ones that can be put in in a room where there is no direct plumbing. Something like 'macerator'?

An ordinary toilet that is noisy is, apparently, cured by cleaning the ball cock . Mind boggles.

It's a single toilet flush, not Ride of the Valkyries a la Apocalypse Now.

I often don't bother flushing at home as its just me, but if I were in someone else's home, that would be hugely unpleasant for the next person else to find.

But then again this is MN where sleeping people will be awakened for the rest of the night from a fart in the underground nuclear bunker 20 miles away, so...

If I'm staying with friends I know they share the same outlookmas me (environmentally aware & quite chill) so wouldn't flush. Staying with older relatives/strangers I would.

Similarly, I donlt flush for one wee at home, but would at work. My behaviour adapts according to what is appropriate.
