To summarise, I purchased a fairly expensive item (few grand) on the spot today. Daft, as I should have slept on it. Not from a shop, but from a dealer of these goods. 30 mins later after I had walked out, I decided it wasn't actually what we had come in for (I was convinced it was what I wanted as he was a good sales person and I am clearly an easily swayed customer). I called with a profuse apology to ask for a refund. I haven't taken the goods yet. Nothing has happened. It's a Sunday evening so the transaction hasn't even gone through to the bank yet. I was told that no refund was available. I hadn't known that and certainly wasn't told that when I had over my credit card. This is a very well known dealership so had assumed there would be a cooling off period or change of mind. I know that under law, there's no right to a refund for change of mind but I know that many businesses do as as business practice. No work has been done on their side. Nothing has been packaged, no work done, no loss on their side other than an hour of their time in selling me the item. I literally walked out the door and called 30 mins later. I'm told that I can have a refund but will need to pay a £50 transaction fee as that is what the credit card would charge as a flat fee to a business. This seems excessive to me. I don't work in retail though. AIBU to think maybe this isn't accurate? The vendor cancelled the transaction within 30 mins but nothing is going through until tomorrow as it isn't a working day today. Would the vendor really be charged £50 for this by the credit card company?
