To think he's got an allergy or intolerance??

Hi guys, I know you’re not doctors and I’m not looking for a diagnosis but my son has been throwing up on and off for 5 weeks now. We noticed yesterday he was fine until he’d had a pizza then a couple of hours later he was projectile vomiting. I just wondered if this could be a sign of a lactose intolerance or gluten? So basically if anyone’s had any experience of this?
We’ve been to a&e with him and to the gp and they’ve all said it’s just viral but 5 weeks is way too long for something to be viral.

Thanks.

A friend DC had something similar. In his case it was abdominal migraines.

Age?

Doctors who have seen your son are in a better place to diagnose - as they have done - rather than internet strangers.

m4mmy0f0ne · 20/10/2019 14:29

He's 2.5 yrs.
we've been to both gp and a&e but how can they call it sickness and diarrhoea when he hasn't had diarrhoea?🤷🏻‍♀️ also I stated I wasn't looking for a diagnosis I was looking for advice.

Keep a diary of what is happening. Timing of episodes and duration. You could see if there are any common foods that seem to trigger it. Then go back to your GP. It’s easier for your GP if they have enough information to start to look for patterns.

You did indeed, but what are you looking for if not that, really?

Sorry your DS is poorly. It's tough seeing them ill and hats off to you for clearing up sick for five weeks!

Viruses manifest in so many different ways and yes, they can stay in the system for a while. This thread might give you ideas but really, given the time period, a doctor (and your GP is ideal in this instance as A&E is for emergencies) who physically sees your son is best.

Please don't cut out lactose or gluten from his diet without a HCP suggesting it though.

I disagree with the above poster, if you think something is the culprit, cut it out and see if it helps. Obviously, see your GP as well, but if you think its milk, take a week off dairy, see if vomiting stops. If it does, introduce it back and see if it starts again. You will have your answers. Tons of kids have allergies, and they have alternatives for everything. Hopefully, you find out whats going on. Also, sometimes, viruses can cause the tummy gut to be sensitive or intolerant for a short time to certain foods after, especially dairy. But once the gut heals, they can have dairy again. This is especially true with tummy bugs. If my dc vomit, I take them off all dairy for a week. Ive been doing this since they were old enough to eat enough other food (obviously, not when babies). They are not 6 and 7. Also, too much sugar can cause upset tummies, too much grapes etc. Keep a food diary.

Please don't exclude things (especially dairy) from a child's diet without consulting a HCP.

DS2 gets temporary lactose intolerance after a stomach bug and I just switch to lactofree for a week.
