Eldest with stomach bug - am I being OTT?

So, quite early this year, but eldest DS (7) appears to have come down with a nasty stomach bug. I obviously kept him at home on Friday and he appears to be managing ok. However, I really don't want to come down with it myself or pass it onto younger DD.

So far, I have insisted on wearing surgical gloves (rather fetching purple!) when checking up on him and also keep my stash of disposable aprons for bathroom duties etc.

DH thinks that I'm being neurotic and that the gloves/ apron thing is a bit silly. Interested to know AIBU?

Dont forget the nhs and care homes have a way of disposing of waste, its called incineration.

Agree with darkclouds. I'd only add painting a plague cross on his door and plastering him in skull and crossbone stickers.

Seriously, when my dc have been ill they've lay with their heads on my knees, while I rub their backs and if necessary hold a bucket if they can't make it to the loo on time. Or occasionally when they had d&v sat on the bathroom floor holding a bucket while they sit on the loo. Hardly very comforting or reassuring to be treated as though they have Ebola.

Haha have you been watching The Hot Zone? I'm picturing you in full PPE, going in with a buddy checking each other for rips Grin

foodname · 20/10/2019 14:00

@Amber0685 yes, you are. How incredibly wasteful. What do you think is going to happen if you get poo or urine on your hands from a standard nappy change?

bobstersmum · 20/10/2019 14:04

This really made me laugh! I'm a total sick phobic but this is funny.

Nogodsnomasters · 20/10/2019 14:30

I have health anxiety and emetophobia so the urge to behave the way op has is overwhelming to me but I fight it and don't do it because I don't want to frighten the life out of my ds5.
When he's sick my dh tends to do most of the immediate clean up as he knows how I'm feeling inside when ds gets sick and then later I'll do a full bleach of door handles, toilet flusher, sink taps, get rid of toothbrushes etc all with gloves on and ds is none the wiser.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 22/10/2019 13:58

Op fucked off? That’s a shame.

Good god!

FavouriteSoul · 22/10/2019 15:20

Where do you get your single use gloves and aprons from? You sound neurotic and your child probably thinks he's seriously ill. Take off the PPE and tuck him up on the sofa with a bucket nearby.

MsJaneAusten · 22/10/2019 15:25

Honestly, just give him a cuddle then wash your hands. If you’re really worried, clean door handles with antibacterial spray daily, but ditch the gloves and apron. It’s unnecessary.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 22/10/2019 15:30

I'll confess to wearing rubber gloves (just normal washing up ones that I throw away afterwards) when someone has a stomach bug. Blush

I also anti-bac door handles, etc. and I have to say that it does seem to protect me from catching things...the one time I didn't bother last year, I caught the bug!

Bonkers. Just rince them in a bit of bleach when you’ve still got them on, then leave them to dry. Why chuck them?

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 24/10/2019 15:22

Sorry but I can't use bring myself them wear them to clean - let alone wash up in- when I've worn them to clear up sick! I know it's not environmentally-friendly, although I do recycle them.

I 'm emetophobic (sp?) so that's why I wear them, I can bear it when I'm gloved up!
