To ask for best playsets for 5 yr old girl

DD has developmental delays which mean she's not really pretend played until very recently so I have no idea about these sorts of toys. Does anyone please have any ideas for christmas presents with little figures or something, like dolls houses or something? She doesn't tell me what toys she wants so she is really hard to buy for! Although I'm very lucky I don't get crazed for the latest "must have" toy!

I hear some of her friends at school like LOL dolls but the house for that costs a fortune! Is it good quality and do your children use it a lot?

Or would you go with Playmobil/Barbie/something else?

Any recommendations gratefully received!

Thanks

Sylvanians are a big hit with our almost 5 year old.

And playmobil, though the sylvanians are usually first choice.

Absoluteunit · 20/10/2019 10:39

Aha I hadn't considered Sylvanians, thank you!

My five year old adores Playmobil. You can spend as much or as little as you like, some of the little sets of people and animals are really good value - DD likes the fairies, pirates and boats!

Absoluteunit · 20/10/2019 10:58

Thankyou. There is a little playmobil playground I think she might like but I will check out the fairy ones too!

ASDA does some lovely and very affordable dolls houses and furniture etc. Depending on what your DD is like, I’d be cautious about Sylvanians - some of the bits are very small, so choking hazards for children who still put things in their mouths (like my DD).
My DD(5) loves her ASDA dolls house and her Happy Land and Peppa Pig playsets.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/10/2019 11:12

Also, Playmobil is fab but also a bit of a choking hazard apart from the stuff that’s aimed at under 3s.

My four year old Granddaughter got into Shopkins. I got a load second hand.

Them and my little pony.

She did ask for and has got Chelsea play sets, but doesn't really bother with them.

My youngest who had developmental dely was always more interested in anything animal based, or horses.

Perhaps if you took her around a big toy shop she might show more interest in one type above the others.

Does she have a doctors set?

Ponoka7 · 20/10/2019 11:23

My Granddaughter also has LOL, absolute waste of time and money.

Absoluteunit · 20/10/2019 12:43

Thank you. I agree the LOL stuff looks crap and so much plastic! I'm starting to think maybe a wooden dolls house?

My DD loves playsets like this. A wooden dolls house was great at that age, now she is into the Schleich animal playsets (mainly horses).

She does have some playmobil but it comes apart easily and then she loses interest. Plus some of it is so small and easy to lose.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/10/2019 14:35

The ASDA dolls houses are wooden, btw
This is similar to the one we have:

Playmobil is brilliant. The camper van is a good first set, or there's a small fold out dolls house which is good too.

CuteOrangeElephant · 20/10/2019 14:48

I really like Lottie Dolls. Wait for a good deal though! Last year they did an excellent Black Friday deal on the treehouse and some dolls

SnugglySnerd · 20/10/2019 14:56

My 5 yo dd loves the toy farm. She spends hours arranging all the animals and then acting out stories. She's just getting into My Little Pony too.
We have a couple of Happyland sets that we got from a charity shop and they get played with a fair bit but it's the farm she really loves.
She also wants an LOL doll but I can't bear them and all the excessive plastic packaging.

IdblowJonSnow · 20/10/2019 15:00

Sylvanians.
And fuzzikins are good, you can colour them and wash them and recolour them.

Absoluteunit · 20/10/2019 17:37

Thanks so much everyone for your suggestions :)

My DH got a fantastic wooden doll's house with loads of wooden furniture on FB, one of our local selling sites. It was £50 and worth way, way more than that new. Amazon do great little dolls/ furniture sets. I got a china dolls tea set for £5 and a Christmas tree, little glass bottles with food bits in for £2.99 or something like that. In the beginning once she was bored with what was there I'd clear the house out and put her little plastic figurines in there and it'd be like a new game so she was interested again. She's got a Peppa Pig school set so that went in for a bit, her Frozen figures had a great time in there, even a load of dinosaurs I got from the pound shop had a whirl. Keep an eye out on Marketplace and local selling sites, there's loads of bargains to be had!

Muumee · 20/10/2019 20:13

Just Googled and Chad Valley do really nice houses for very reasonable prices, can be bought in Argos.

brittlestar · 20/10/2019 21:11

How about Grimms wooden people/ some dolls and some schleich animals as a basis for some small world imaginative play? Some silk scarves and old handbags could start your dressing up collection. Watch her playing and see what she's pretending- is it shops/ cooking/ doctors etc could give you ideas of which direction to go with toys. It might be worth seeing if your local library have a toy library where you can try some toys for free and see if any capture her interest.

stoplickingthetelly · 20/10/2019 21:19

My ds is 4, but still really enjoys her peppa pig, Ben and holly and paw patrol toys. Would your dd be interested in anything like this? We also have Lottie and some barbie stuff. Dd is having the barbie dream camper for Christmas this year.

Didiusfalco · 20/10/2019 21:21

Asda dolls house with sylvanian creatures living in it is my dds favourite. The house is really lovely and a great price.

Josephinebettany · 20/10/2019 21:41

We have the lol house and while I think it's is so over priced my children play with it all the time. They got it for Christmas last year and the novelty hasn't worn off.
I'd go with what she's interested in or her favourite TV programmes eg if she likes peppa on TV get her a Peppa play set and figures. All the TV programmes have toys based on them.

hairycabbage · 20/10/2019 22:02

My six year old dd loves Playmobil over almost everything but also likes LOL dolls (she doesn't have the house etc, just spends hours arranging them), dolls house and is just starting to get into Lego too. She goes through phases of loving sylvanian families but nothing beats Playmobil!

QS888 · 20/10/2019 22:06

Definitely recommend Lottie dolls - my daughter loved these

tigger001 · 20/10/2019 22:07

Sylvanians, they are just lovely.
I still have a loft full if originals from 25/30 years ago. I loved them.
