Panic!! Can’t remember bank card pin - need to transfer money

Please tell me Im not screwed! Please !
I need to urgently transfer money on Monday. It’s a big amount so I will be going to the branch. I’ve done this before and the branch make me use the pin with my card to verify me. I *** can’t remember the pin!

Ordering a new pin takes 5 days. I absolutely have to send the money on Monday. Please someone tell me they’ll accept other ID - like my passport, DL, solicitor letter (proof of source of funds) or anything !

I think you have to know your pin. Do you have online banking? Can you transfer it between accounts to another car you know the pin for. Seems a bit strange not to remember your PIN number! You just have a card you use regularly

Hahaha88 · 19/10/2019 18:52

I mean you could just ring the bank and ask them instead of a bunch of random people on the internet who don't even know who you bank with let alone their rules

PotteringAlong · 19/10/2019 18:53

Do you have a pin reminder on your app? But no, You don’t need the pin as long as you have ID that it’s you!

coconuttelegraph · 19/10/2019 18:58

I did something similar a little while ago and I absolutely did need my PIN but obviously you know better than my actual bank . @hahaha88 is right, speak to your bank to find out if there are any options

Lougle · 19/10/2019 18:59

Which bank are you with? If it's Barclays, the mobile app will show you your pin.

Tun55 · 19/10/2019 19:01

It’s Halifax.

I have a secondary account with Natwest and don't have a card. To withdraw money I only need ID so assume the same with transferring.

Lougle · 19/10/2019 19:05

Oh dear, they only send PIN reminders by mail. There's a daily limit of £25,000 through online banking. Is that low enough, or could you pay some over the next 3 days so that you get the total through by Monday?

Cabezona · 19/10/2019 19:05

And if you have another account with them where you do remember the pin then you should be fine.

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/10/2019 19:09

I made a very large payment from one of my accounts with the Halifax this week and had to put my card into their machine and enter my PIN as well as them seeing ID in the form of my driving licence.

Exactly the above. Just ask your bank, ffs.

VenusTiger · 19/10/2019 19:17

Take a statement in (or print it off) showing your name, account number etc. and use your driving licence which has your name address and photo on.
Otherwise, transfer it online.
My bank has a 24/7 phone number, yours probably does too, call them tonight.

YobaOljazUwaque · 19/10/2019 19:20

Yes they will accept photographic ID. Take both passport and driving licence. If its an account you rarely use they will totally understand that you simply won't know the pin.

GabsAlot · 19/10/2019 19:23

Can u not transfer money over the phone

SnaccidentsHappen · 19/10/2019 19:43

I work for a bank and yes unfortunately you will need to know your pin and also have your ID. You can transfer up to £25000 per day but not at the weekend. If you transfer up to the limit you will then not be able to transfer anymore until Monday.

PotteringAlong · 20/10/2019 09:34

I’ve definitely done it at nationwide with just my card and ID and no PIN number...

notapizzaeater · 20/10/2019 09:36

Do you know your passwords ? Can't you phone the bank and get them to do the transfer over the phone ?

Bofster37 · 20/10/2019 09:39

Do it online

Janedownourlane · 20/10/2019 09:40

Dont panic, do you use the pin regularly?
Could you try making a diagram of the keypad and see if your fingers have a 'memory' of the pattern?
I often forget mine under pressure but i seem to remember the pattern on the keyboard and it comes back to me.

Good luck...hopefullly it will just pop back into your head!

ShivD · 20/10/2019 09:42

I was also going to suggest doing it over the phone. I bank with first direct so no stores so everything is done over the phone and I’ve never had to give a PIN to transfer large amounts of cash.

AreWeAnywhereNear · 20/10/2019 09:53

You definitely can transfer without the PIN, I did it for my Mum. I had to involve the manager and it took over an hour with me practically in tears and pleading (it was regarding a house purchase) but we got there in the end.

We were armed with a solicitors letter with the details of where the money was going & why, ID for my Mum, my actual Mum and me & I wasn't leaving until the money was transferred.

KUGA · 20/10/2019 09:56

I may be mistaken, but whilst in the bank recently a young female couldn`t remember her PIN and the assistant took her to the cash point and showed her how to change it there and then.
A bit like changing your pin when you have a new card come through the post.

You need your old PIN to change to a new PIN though. Otherwise anyone who found/stole your card could just change to a PIN of their choice and empty your account.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/10/2019 12:44

@KUGA she had probably blocked her PIN by entering it incorrectly 3 times and the assistant was helping her unblock it again. As AlexaAmbidextra says you can't change a PIN if you've forgotten it.

@Tun55 I think you need to ring Halifax and ask them, it seems some banks might allow you to transfer without it, but the ones use you would have to have your PIN. I don't have an account with Halifax so I don't know.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/10/2019 12:46

ones I use that should say.
