To ask why people park outside my house when there's a free carpark next door?

Genuinely interested as a non-driver. I live at the quiet end of a high street in Oz. House detached....next door is a big car park...then the pub.

Why do people park in front of my house? Two, three cars at a time? There's a HUGE free, safe car park next door. I mind because they're always so loud! I have attached a BEAUTIFUL diagram.

Because they want to park there.

BillHadersNewWife · 19/10/2019 13:52

Yes but WHY? What's wrong with the car park?

You have to manoeuvre in a car park

TottieandMarchpane · 19/10/2019 13:53

They think the street is safer.

Gizlotsmum · 19/10/2019 13:53

Is it for customers of the pub only? I would probably assume it was and therefore park on the street

wowfudge · 19/10/2019 13:53

Maybe they think it's the pub car park so don't park there?

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 19/10/2019 13:54

Maybe they think the pub one is only for customers

BillHadersNewWife · 19/10/2019 13:54

No these are all pub customers. They all go to the pub.

GruciusMalfoy · 19/10/2019 13:55

Maybe the spaces are tight, or they think it's a private car park, or they're liable to be blocked in.

GruciusMalfoy · 19/10/2019 13:56

They've had one too many and think they're less conspicuous if they walk a small distance from the pub before getting in the car?

Dunno. Ask them and report back?

MsPavlichenko · 19/10/2019 13:59

To be honest it really doesn't matter/isn't your business why. They park there and that's that.

It clearly annoys you but I suspect spending time speculating as to their reasons is only going to increase said annoyance.

BillHadersNewWife · 19/10/2019 14:01

I know they're allowed to park there but I just find it odd! I thought there might be a reason I would not understand as a non-driver. The car park is never full. Loads of room.

OwlBeThere · 19/10/2019 14:01

Because people are fucking weird.

TroysMammy · 19/10/2019 14:04

They won't have anyone who could bump into or scratch their car. We have a patient like this. She parks on the staff side of the car park because she knows we are all in work and there is no danger car doors being opened and damaging her car. Well that's my theory but she could also be an entitled madam who thinks she is too superior to park with the rest of the patients.

TSSDNCOP · 19/10/2019 14:05

I can think of two reasons. First, it looks less like you’ve had a drink to walk up to a car in the street vs pub car park. Two, if you’re in the pub you’re likely to not come out until much later therefore your car’s a mark for a chancer.

LtJudyHopps · 19/10/2019 14:38

My car door has a mark on it from a Tesco car park yesterday. I’m so bloody annoyed as I parked in the bay perfectly well, it’s not my fault they either can’t park or threw their door open. I normally always park on the end if I can. But that could be why they’ve parallel parked instead - no other cars!

Isitnearlyweekend · 19/10/2019 17:16

Less chance of having your car broken into parked on a street outside someone else’s house than on a pub car park.
