I’m British expat overseas and following as much as I can but want to ask those in the know- who are following the details- what happens now?! Apparently a deal has been done? But media reports are vague

Parliament still has to agree though don’t get, DUP has already said it won’t back the deal, it can’t possibly get through?

mossiemagnet · 17/10/2019 11:27

@Janus the brief news over here made it seem as if all is hunkey dorey (like it’s finally over etc) if DUP block it - is it back to square 1 and no deal exit end of October?

People said Boris never wanted a deal, couldn’t negotiate one if he did, and wasn’t even negotiating anyway.

Here we now have a deal that has to still be passed, Labour want Boris to go into a GE without delivering brexit and DUP have already come out against it but if it meant Corbyn in power they may fold.

If this is May's deal with a facelift, and gets rejected by Parliament as most expect, then there will be trouble ahead in the next GE.

Others are waiting for Milne to tell them what is wrong with it so they all tow the party line.

I don't expect they will leak the details before the PM can start defending it back home.

A deal has been done
It won't get through parliament
The saga continues indefinitely
Fun

I can’t imagine what it’s like to live in all the brexshit tooing and frowing- how likely is it - based on the details you all get in the UK re DUP etc that a no deal is becoming more likely because of the backstop issue, and (after reading multiple threads on prepping to pass on to relatives) when will we know whether the new ‘deal’ is rejected or accepted?

OP posts:
Burpsandrustles · 17/10/2019 11:49

Jrm said backstop has gone, which means article 4 is moot. It was this that stopped UK setting future tariffs etc.

Janus · 17/10/2019 12:31

Parliament will vote again on Saturday. Does anyone know timings?

mossiemagnet · 17/10/2019 12:37

So if article 4 is the process for withdrawal from EU and is moot point end of October with no support from DUP means not leaving legally or leaving with no deal? (crash out) mum is a pensioner and sibling works for nhs so am worried about theirs- plus most average hard working people’s future - with next steps toward end of the year
