On Tuesday night I must have bitten the inside of my cheek in my sleep.

I woke up in absolute agony, looking inside my mouth you can actually see the line of teeth marks where I've chomped at it.

Last night I woke myself up by doing it again!

It's now so sore, I can't brush my teeth, eat, drink or even close my mouth properly.

How am I going to get this to heal? And how do I stop myself doing it again this evening?

Cake for whoever comes up with a cure.

I've bitten the inside of my cheek since I was a child but i do it on purpose. You could try an antiseptic anaesthetic spray for the pain

I do this, it’s possible due to stress are you having a stressful time at the moment?
I now wear a mouth guard every night which helps a lot.

@MeganSparkle

I did wonder about a mouth guard? Even just for the moment whilst it heals up. Is yours just like a sports one?

Dentist can fit you with a mouth guard that is fairly comfortable and will stop this.

MeganSparkle · 17/10/2019 10:10

No it was one made for me by the dentist, he did a mould of my mouth sent it off and a few weeks later I went back to have it fitted. It was actually my dentist who realised I was biting the insides of my mouth and suggest it.

The thought of the dentist poking around in my mouth at the moment fills me with dread. I can barely open it as it's so painful! Just need something in the meantime to help it heal up I guess. Then I can look at preventing it in future. Ouch!

A mouth guard made by your dentist would be the best bet but that obviously takes a while. I would by a basic sports one for now, just to help it heal, there's loads on the likes of amazon! Although I am sure you could pop into a sports shop or even Boots. Think you can get those that you heat up and then bite on so they mold to your teeth, that would work for now.

Yes I do this and grind my teeth so I now have a mouth guard which has helped .antiseptic throat sweet on site helped me

SmallPinkBear · 17/10/2019 16:08

Have you tried gargling salt water? It will hurt but it should help heal and stop infection. Don’t swallow it though!

Borderscotch · 17/10/2019 16:12

Wash mouth out with oraldene, amazing stuff and will help.woth pain and healing.

cheesewitheverything · 17/10/2019 17:31

If you're just buying a mouth guard off the shelf, you don't need a sports guard as you can by night guards specifically for this problem (and tooth grinding) but they won't be as easy to sleep in as one the dentist makes for you. I have both types and can vouch for that!

The mouth does heal very quickly - assuming you don’t keep doing it.

Is an anti inflammatory mouth rinse that works. I took a whole chunk out my clerk and the pharmacist recommended this. It was available over the counter. Hope it helps
