Looking for inspiration for a possible career change and I’m also really nosey curious about what people in different jobs bring home - I still have debts and bills to pay!

So I’ll kick off since I asked the question...

I make 70k gross working part time. DH is on 150k and works full time. We are both the scum of the earth lawyers.

Anyone else willing to share?

This thread has been done to death. Can't you just do a search?

99BehaviourProblems · 17/10/2019 00:52

Didn’t realise it had been done to death, haven’t been on MN very long! Thanks for the tip. Will do a search Smile

Pretty easy to research career paths + salary expectations online tbh.

99BehaviourProblems · 17/10/2019 00:59

I’d like real life examples TBH. Found a thread now, thanks!

What salary are you after and why change career?
Curious nosey

minesagin37 · 17/10/2019 01:21

In fairness if the op is new then they are not going to know it's been done to death! Many things are done to death but they seem to get asked again and no one bats an eyelid.

I'm a university lecturer. I earn about £44k a year possibly more if I do book reviews, external uni work etc.

BanKittenHeels · 17/10/2019 01:28

I’d say to earn similar to your current salary you’re may need some significant retraining or specific qualifications.

I’m a doctor, you can find our pay scales here:

NaomiFromMilkShake · 17/10/2019 01:31

I don't.

Mid 20s teaching PT. 20 years into my teaching career, and I am also looking for a change.

BlockedAndDeleted · 17/10/2019 01:35

Just wondering why OP needed to include her husband’s salary though...

TruthOnTrial · 17/10/2019 02:02

Yep, it is done to death, people seem to enjoy posting their personal details on a public forum though Confused stealth boast

mokapot · 17/10/2019 03:35

Why oh why bother ??

AngelzEye · 17/10/2019 03:48

You could just buy a fancy car...

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 17/10/2019 03:58

How can you earn that much money and have debt? (Other than a mortgage) Live within your means! You earn far more than most.

Monty27 · 17/10/2019 04:04

What's your outgoings? yawn

GrassWasGreener · 17/10/2019 04:19

Hi op

I bring home just under €25k a year and own my own small bungalow. We now have a newborn too, variety of animals to look after etc and a vehicle each. Husband is farmer and takes €12k a year to live from out of the farm but wouldn't have say any huge expenses (except me lol) as everything goes through the business. We keep most things separate as I work outside of the farm, most of my expenses can not go through his business. I pay the mortgage and bills. Husband pays pretty much for everything else. We have to keep an eye on finances but on the whole we do ok. Am dreaming of 70k Wink but I think a lot of people live to just within their means. If I did earn more money, I would soon find a way to spend it and likely still have to keep an eye on finances

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 17/10/2019 05:21

Why do you want a career change when you make 70k part time?!

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 05:33

These kind of threads work better if you give some parameters, really.

What I do is semi-creative but freelance. So I wouldn’t bother NCing to tell a career changing lawyer with debts all about it.

(Unless you’d specifically said that you were interested in x area and did y creative thing in your spare time and, actually, the deboys are quite minor and you’ll put up with a fluctuating income.)

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 05:34

Debts not deboys.

blackcat86 · 17/10/2019 05:36

I earn 32k which is actually £19k ish takehome for 3 days a week in social work. It's hard going and I'm also considering a career change after weve completed our family. What sort of work do you want to do?

Aus84 · 17/10/2019 05:49

Sure, I earn more than you, also part time/choose my own hours. Work from home at the moment and am bored shitless. Own business.
Currently retraining because I would rather teach and do something meaningful.

Sewingbea · 17/10/2019 05:51

As you are earning £70k part time I wouldn't be looking in the public sector for a career change OP. You may find the salary drop a bit difficult...

Zeusthemoose · 17/10/2019 05:55

Really interesting thread OP

I'm a rat catcher... I take home 29p a tail
