To think I should get a full refund

Severe train delays which meant that I missed an important meeting. I applied for a refund as I had to give up on the train and miss my meeting. I got told that out of my whole ticket price I would only get a quarter of my money back due to 'admin fees'.
AIBU to think that because I didn't take the train due to no fault of my own that I should get all of my money back? I basically paid to walk into the train station, wait two hours and then walk out again.

What operator?
I use Thameslink to commute, and they are dreadful for delays. I had three last week. With them the length of the delay dictates the refund, although I have a season ticket so not sure how it works out with a single/return
You can normally claim via the website and they will tell you on there how much you are entitled to.

Yes, it depends how long the delay was. Admin fees shouldn't be a factor.

The reason for your journey was of no concern or interest to you, and the Delay Repay rules are well advertised. If your meeting was so important did you consider going on an earlier train?

Was it that you chose not to travel and were getting a refund on an unused ticket, rather than the train you travelled on was late?

If it were that then I think there would be admin fees.

Yes you should get money back for a two hour delay.

For too long have train companies taken the piss with ticket prices and rules because there is little choice for passengers.

You wanted to travel at 9am (for eg)
They agreed they could transport you at 9am
They then said they could not transport you at 9am but could do it at 11am instead
You said no thanks, I don't need an 11am ticket
They kept some of your money anyway

Is no different than...

You wanting to buy a book
Amazon agreeing to sell you a book
Amazon then saying they cannot sell you that book but will send a different one in a similar topic
You saying no thanks
Them charging you the postage anyway

Did you apply via the Delay Repay form or did you ask to cancel the ticket? I've never had a problem with DR claims, but I have always used the correct form.

Sounds like you just asked for a refund rather than claiming compensation for the delay? Refunds are always minus an admin fee but that's not the case with Delay Repay claims - and I think it's an hour delay that gets you the full price of your ticket back?

If your meeting was so important did you consider going on an earlier train?
The train I booked would have gotten me there an hour early, I hate being late so I purposely booked an early train. The delays were 2 hours by the time I decided to give up because id have missed my meeting anyway by the time I got there.
