To think she shouldn't get higher rate pip

sunnydaysx · 15/10/2019 19:10

My MIL receives pip because she has a bad back and asthma her daughter is down as her carer.
She hasn't had the central heating on in her home for more than 10 years and it's riddled with damp making the asthma worse...

Long story short she's not making her situation any better because she's not trying to get rid of the damp or taking most of her tablets she's meant to. Basically she's over exaggerating.

She is now writing to PIP to say she should be on the higher rate allowance because she has to keep going to hospital appointments and keeps coughing.

AIBU to think higher rate disability should be for people who actually can't move, talk, walk not somebody that can do her gardening, painting, wallpapering and just general everyday things shouldn't be entitled to it because they're playing on there illness or is it not my business?

I just think imo she shouldn't be entitled to higher rate and should be grateful she's even been awarded lower rate because she actually isn't disabled

@JenniferM1989 You've stated lots of waffle and zero facts. The fraud rate on DLA was around 1%. It was not notoriously easy to claim at all, and the majority of people moving from DLA to PIP have had face to face assessments. Stop eating all the nasty propaganda you're being fed, it makes you look very stupid.

(And Idontwanttotalk is spot on, the LibDems were very much a part of the disability austerity regime brought in by the coalition government, and have done nothing to remedy their past failings since.)

I think you are being very unreasonable to pretend you are "thinking". About anything at all, really.

PortiaCastis · 16/10/2019 12:16

Have you or her son done anything to help your Mil regarding house issues or do you just sit in judgement and bitch online about her OP.

TheQueef · 16/10/2019 12:18

Anyone posted this yet?

Heaven forfend !

Remember, a lot of people really think that any form of charity is merely an encouragement to the feckless, less deserving and sinful. Basically people who are up shit creek paddled themselves there, and should be punished by society for their existence. It's even in the bible.

Somewhere.

I'm sure.

I’m surprised this goady nonsense is still here! I reported it yesterday and honestly thought it would be gone by now.

SerendipityJane · 16/10/2019 12:28

Oh look, a goady fucker benefit froth troll getting basic facts wrong.

Is there any other sort ? Can't recall last time I read a post from a well informed benefits troll. Or indeed a well informed post from any troll.

One of the rare joys in life - like a babies smile, birdsong, that unexpected last chocolate digestive, is when a goady fucker kicks off a post and almost unanimously gets their arse returned to them a la mode. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it restores your faith in humanity.

Briefly.

My husband had his pip taken off him, first off the accessories are not trained in medical or anything else they are a glorified secretary, he can't walk but because he got up with the help of his crutches she put down can stand and walk he depends on his crutches for everything when he said he can take a shower but need to sit on a shower seat she put down he can take a shower without help. These accessories are a joke she was an hour and 15 minutes late and then try to cancel on him after he had the council a physical therapy appointment just to have her come over. I have had several strokes so I'm not any help to him but I try, we depend on his pip to help pay our rent. We are now appealing it with a mandatory reconsideration but who knows the medical people they have looking at it don't specialise in what's wrong with him he's has a doctor's letter stating what is all wrong with his legs but still they denied him he is waiting for a second surgery on his other knee. I hear him in so much pain that it has him in tears . This is just plain torture to him. And her wanting a higher rate just because she won't take care of herself is why people like my husband are being denied! Absolutely ridiculous!!

Isabellacooper · 16/10/2019 12:36

Wow I thought I was posting on a different post sorry if my statement makes no sense in what all of you are talking about. 😬

Isabellacooper · 16/10/2019 12:50

I'm sorry but most of you don't even make sense, pip is not a benefit and it is not based off your worst days it's points based on what you can not do people make the mistake in say I can but I need help, they don't want to know you need help they want to know if you can or can not do what they ask you. There are hidden disabilities as in chronic pain or CFS but these assessors don't have enough knowledge on much medical if you look closely to their ID they show you it will state what they really are a glorified secretary that's it. I demanded a RN to asses me. Not one of there so called medical people. And the ones that look at all the evidence you send in aren't qualified in your medical conditions. I'm shocked that she thinks she can just get a higher pip and not prove she needs it. As an ex Nurse and legal assistant I'm shocked at how many other people are on it but really can't prove it.

JanMeyer · 16/10/2019 13:24

Oh look, another one who thinks they can make judgements about other people's circumstances. Seriously, you complain about assessors lying and making assumptions and then you decide to cast aspersions on other claimants. And you don't see any contradiction in that? Do you think being an ex-nurse qualifies you to say who should and shouldn't be getting PIP?
And if PIP isn't a benefit, what do you think it is then?

pip is not a benefit and it is not based off your worst days it's points based on what you can not do people make the mistake in say I can but I need help, they don't want to know you need help they want to know if you can or can not do what they ask you.

That's not true at all, it is about what a person might need help with, not just what they can't do. The point system reflects that, for example for preparing food a person gets maximum points for being unable to prepare a simple meal, but may get a lesser amount of points if they need assistance in doing so. What's important is how you phrase the answer. You can't say "I can do this but I need help in doing so." Because all they'll write down is that you can do it. What you need to say is "I can't do this unless I receive help/support from another person or use an aid of some kind."

SerendipityJane · 16/10/2019 13:51

You forgot to answer the question in the two graphics posted.

Isabellacooper · 16/10/2019 13:58

No pip isn't for severe disability in war injuries it is points tested and is for anyone that has a disability or hidden disability. She just needs to prove how her disability affects her.

Grimbles · 16/10/2019 14:03

And her wanting a higher rate just because she won't take care of herself is why people like my husband are being denied!

How does that work then?

Falutin · 16/10/2019 15:32

I just made an account just to respond to this. You have no idea what PIP is for. And you go around spouting nonsense. You are not privy to your mum in law's conditions because I'm sure she realises your judgement of her and doesn't share information with you. I hate judgemental smug people like you. You vote in governments to punish people you believe are not worthy.
I have various different conditions that interact. I have a master's degree in a good field. If I could work, I would do so and you can get PIP even if you work! I do occasional activities that you'll probably judge me for but it's for my mental health! Some of those things aggravate my ME but they're worth it. I go and see friends occasionally and I need to recover from those visits but I'll rather suffer for a few days than go mad alone and shut in. But you, and others like you who have the shallow analysis of a fish, will see me do those things and assume there's nothing wrong with me. It's part of the reason I over explain my conditions to others cause I'm frightened. But you probably enjoy my fear and if others like me.
YOU ONLY SEE THE SURFACE of what people deal with.
You're horrible .

Cementowl · 16/10/2019 16:16

You can have PIP and work. Many do.

headinhands · 16/10/2019 16:49

Basically this thread should be called 'I don't like my MIL, come and help me slag her off'.

SerendipityJane · 16/10/2019 16:54

Basically this thread should be called 'I don't like my MIL, come and help me slag her off'.

If only it had been ...

But the OP had to stir in some hot MailMail sauce, just to spice it up, and poison the thread against the disabled in general.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/10/2019 16:57

I'm sure I looked perfectly normal when I drove to the corner shop this morning, a bit messy as I'd just flung on clothes, but not Ill or disabled.
Yet, that's me missing out on going out tonight as my lungs are full of sticky, glue like gunk that no manner of clearence has helped, if they get worse, then it's hospital.
Two weeks in a row, Psychedelic Furs last week, Kiefer Sutherland tonight.
The laugh of it is I bought more tickets today, because I wont stop trying to have a life, it guts me every time I can't go.

Mumanddad7 · 31/10/2019 06:52

Call crimestoppers and report if you feel that strongly about it
They will take their time in getting to see her and call her in for an interview but the element of surprise will catch her off guard and she wont have time to prepare herself.

bert3400 · 31/10/2019 07:01

My X husband is exactly the same, bad back, disabled , my son is his carer. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him . He 'injured' his back while on Jobseekers 23 years ago. In the last year he has decorated two houses and built a massive shed . He is just a very good liar.
I understand your frustration with your MIL it makes me so angry when genuine people are being forced to work who can not .

DeeCeeCherry · 31/10/2019 07:04

Mind your own business. You're not a PIP Assessor, thankfully. You sound as if you spend your time slyly sticking your beak into her life. How odd. Does your H know what you're like about his mum?

Sneakiness drips from your every word.

TheQueef · 31/10/2019 07:24

Necro thread for Halloween?
Poor effort. This one still has a bit of life left.
