So fed up of dh's zero effort

Ok I know I'll get told it's my fault for not training him better but I am at my wits' end! I've been married for 15 years and dh has never been a keen cook but used to make an effort at least twice a week. Instead of getting better though he's just getting worse. Tonight I was at work and the kids got fish fingers...and biscuits. Yes I know it's not the end of the world but it's the lack of effort: we have beans, peas, tomatoes but no, that was too much effort apparently. He says it doesn't matter for one night - and it doesn't because tomorrow I will cook and make a balanced meal because that's what you do! I have never put such a half-arsed attempt on the table and he knows it. But aibu to think that I shouldn't be the only adult providing healthy meals in this family?!

That would drive me insane. Pure laziness.

Takes 3 mins to microwave some peas and you are at least approaching a balanced meal. Zero thought put into tonight's effort. YANBU.

Easy - food shopping and cooking the evening meal is his job and you take on the responsibility for family finances or laundry etc. What does he normally cook?

smemorata · 14/10/2019 20:04

He can cook a few pasta dishes but if we don't have those ingredients he is totally incapable of improvising.

He says it doesn't matter for one night. Yep, because he knows the real parent will pick up the slack to make up for his incompetence. FFS, how difficult is it to throw in a few chips with the fish fingers and heat up some beans or peas? My DH is really not the best cook but even he's taught himself to make an omelette for the DCs.

A man doesn’t need training - he’s an adult. You weren’t trained. Just leave him to it - he’s have to get organised. He can always do an online weekly shop if he is short of time. If he’s cooking every day he’ll soon get organised.

So tomorrow he's having...

Fish fingers and biscuits?!
