Hello,
I have registered my son for Reading blue coat. His interview is in Nov and entrance in the Jan 2020. My son isn't succeeded in Berkshire exam so I am really worried about reading blue coat assessment procedure. Has anyone gone through the assessment in 2019? I want to know how complex their assessment process and what is success rate ? How i can prepare him for the assessment? I live in slough so are there any other good private school that I can be considered ? Thank you..

I'd get this moved to secondary education to be honest.... this isn't an AIBU and very few people will live close enough to offer good advice or know the ins and outs of application procedures for a specific school

I teach at a prep in the area, but girls only so don’t know much about the boys schools. However as a general rule private schools are easier to get in to than the state grammars, in this area even the top private’s aren’t as hard to get in to as eg Kendrick. If he was borderline for a state grammar he will most likely get in to private schools. Not sure what you mean by Berkshire exam - is that for Reading Boys?

The school should have info on their website about what the exam covers - usually maths, reading, writing, perhaps science, VR and NVR. you can buy practise books at WH Smith or online, but if he’s already done a state 11+ I guess you’ve practiced that with him already?

Please excuse the apostrophe in privates, damn autocorrect and mumsnet not allowing editing!!!!!

Thank you so much for your reply. Berkshire I meant Slough consortium. He missed it by 14 marks so I am scared about private school exam. Any points to good school will be helpful.

Ah ok. Being honest 14 marks doesn’t sound that close to passing (not familiar with slough consortium exam but based on other 11+ exams in the area eg bucks, Kendrick), unless he had a bad day I would assume he was not hugely academic? In which case a private school might suit better as there is more focus on sport, drama, music etc than a state grammar which is v academic. I’m afraid I really don’t know much about boys schools in the area. Not sure how close Wokingham is to you but I believe both Holme grange and luckley house are coed and easier to get in to than grammars, and both nice schools. Is pipers corner coed? That’s near Wycombe I believe.

Thanks for your reply. Yes we also think private school is best option. We are in slough but we ready to move for good private school .

Hi there, we are looking at Reading Blue Coats for my son who will join Year 8. Would anyone be able to share any feedback about the school? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
