To be sick of unicorns!

Why do they have to be on everything?
Just tried to buy Dd some pyjamas in town.
Seems like every sodding pair had a unicorn print, I've come home empty handed. FFS.

Why on earth are they so popular? And can someone please make it stop.

Edit** I don't have a problem with children liking unicorns haha

I hear you. Every time I think I've found an animal to love that will make me look quirky and original, I discover that Accessorize have already covered it in glitter and put it on a load of hairclips, handbags and pencil cases. Unicorns, Narwhals, Llamas, Alpacas, Sloths. It'll be Blobfish next.

I got my daughter Space pyjamas from John Lewis last Christmas. She loves them. Not a unicorn in sight (there are some cats though, floating about in Space, with heads the size of planets).

Daughter gets dinosaur clothes from the "boys" section in H&M. She got a nice jumper with a sequinned dino on a murky green background last year - really nice.

She also gets "boys" trainers because she prefers the colours. It annoys her that they are aimed at boys but just as good for her.

Any prediction for what will follow the llama? My instinct says gecko but then I know the marketing people will be like "the kids today are living in a world full of insecurity. They need comfort. They need warmth. They need the tangibility of [INSERT UNICORN PUG AND LLAMA REPLACEMENT]".
I also think its gunna be a traditionally "ugly" animal to fit with the eco caring movement.
So my prediction is....

Sloth will be the new unicorn

At least unicorns, narwhals, flamingos, sloths and llamas (for most people) are unobtainable. The fashion for brachycephalic dogs on everything (pugs and Frenchies) helped led to a massive increase in their population with all their attendent problems. I hope geckos, tortoises, pygmy hedgehogs aren't the next fad as you can get those, and fuck them up.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 14/10/2019 15:32

I can't stand sloths. Sorry.

GoodGriefSunshine · 14/10/2019 15:36

Gawd, I thought unicorns were 2016...llamas 2018. Infact my daughter was asking last year what the next thing was as they were so over done.

Whathappenedtothelego · 14/10/2019 16:07

Wonder if the clothes designers are laughing their heads off, because the shops will go for any old rubbish as long as it's got a unicorn on.

At least llamas rhyme with pyjamas.

And thanks for the Sainsbury's recommendation - but they were one of the worst offenders when I looked in the actual shop, only had unicorns in dd's size.
She is 12, I think things are worse in the bigger sizes. Or else we live in a unicorn hotspot.

I love unicorns, but I hate how popular they have become in recent years. As a teenager, it was quirky and different for me to like unicorns and no one really got it.

My DH bought me a gold unicorn necklace for the first birthday we were together, it was 19 years ago. A couple of years ago when the trend was coming in, someone said to me I like your necklace, where did you get it. I said my DH bought it for me 19 years ago. I was met with the response 'oh dont be silly, Unicorns weren't around then'

I have not bought into the trend at all other than to buy a kids tshirt from sainsburys that says I liked unicorns before they were cool

I'm a bit sick of dinosaurs as DS is scared of them. Dragons are ok though and not scary Hmm

I'm glad sequins are now for boys too.
I'm getting DS one of those reversable sequin jumpers from H&M with a tiger on the front as he likes my sequined jumper :)

sweetkitty · 16/10/2019 09:57

I got DD3 sloth pyjamas last year in River Island, this year I had the same problem OP unicorns everywhere, she chose some relatively plain pajamas from Next in the end, checked bottoms very cosy looking,

Is it not pandas? Saw loads of panda stuff everywhere too? DD3 loves horses can’t find horsey stuff for unicorns can we have some realism please?

FrappeLatte · 16/10/2019 10:02

So bored of all the shops selling essentially the same product.

This!! 100% this.

Dita73 · 16/10/2019 10:40

I agree. I’ve been trying to get a few things for my house (lamps, bedding, etc) and it’s all flamingos and bloody pineapples!!! Makes me fume!
