To think that people have forgotten where their sodding indicators are?

Fed up of people driving like absolute idiots and expecting the rest of the world to just bloody guess where they're going to go next. I had a woman unexpectedly swerve to turn in front of me at the last minute, had to slam on the brakes, no indicators or anything. When I leant on my horn it didn't even register that she'd done anything wrong - no acknowledgement or anything! Do people drive round in a dream world? I actually think car manufacturers will stop putting indicators on cars as no fucker uses them! Aaaaaaand breathe...

Maybe she was depressed and not thinking clearly. It can happen. Relax!

Swer987 · 14/10/2019 13:07

Yeah I have definitely noticed this much more recently. Especially on motorways when changing lanes. Incredibly frustrating.

Watch the road rage @chocolatesaltyballs22 it might get you into trouble.
Calm down and relax

Oh yabu because you will likely never encounter the driver again and also, what's the advantage in getting worked up?? It's just stress

Was she in a BMW? It's a well-known fact that indicators on BMWs are an optional extra which is rarely bought.

Well, actually, my theory was this. Cars have their gearlever in the middle. Once upon a time, cars in this country had their indicator stalk opposite the gearlever on the right, and cars with left hand-drive had it opposite the gearlever on the left. Then some bright spark, in the interests of saving carmakers money by not having different parts for left- and right-hand drive cars european harmonisation so you could go to a different country and know where the indicators on yor hire car would be, decided that in Britain the indicators should be on the left too. So what happens is that drivers are unable to change gear and indicate all at the same time, so they don't indicate.

Haha not a BMW, no. To be fair was using this as an example - I see it every single day. It's dangerous! (And what happened to 'mirror, signal, manoeuvre?' That's what I was taught years ago! )

Oh I though most peoples were broken? That’s what I tell myself when sat waiting at the roundabout anyway. Piss me off so much!

Chouetted · 14/10/2019 13:17

As a pedestrian this grinds my gears, especially as the driver always thinks it's my fault for walking out in front of them instead of magically intuiting that they were going to turn.

Kazzyhoward · 14/10/2019 13:20

So what happens is that drivers are unable to change gear and indicate all at the same time, so they don't indicate.

You shouldn't be doing both at once anyway. Everything needs doing in the right order separately, indicate, brake, gear change.

NerrSnerr · 14/10/2019 13:22

So what happens is that drivers are unable to change gear and indicate all at the same time, so they don't indicate.

If you can't do a simple manoeuvre then you need more driving lessons. It's really not that difficult to be able to turn safely, using indicators.

Kazzyhoward · 14/10/2019 13:24

I was in the police a few decades ago. When I was on point duty directing traffic coming out of a side road onto a main road, I'd always direct anyone who wasn't indicating to turn left. We didn't have the time, when standing in the middle of a road with traffic stopped, to try to second guess what a driver wanted to do. Quite a few times you'd get a smart arse trying to turn right against my direction or giving me verbals, but I just pointed out that they should indicate if they didn't want to be inconvenienced.

Not Stoke on Trent, North of England though. Think it's the same everywhere.
