I live in a flat there are only 2 in each block I am bottom flat , above me the tenants son works nights ( has done for 2 years ). I can't mow my lawn , Hoover my car , or do any outside work that might be noisy until after 5pm ish. It's the same with the neighbors.yesterday the man across the street was sawing in his path for a couple of hours he works everyday so can only do his house maintenance on weekends when the said night shift worker started shouting out of his bedroom window ( which is at front of flat ) about how he works nights and he can't sleep etc AIBU to think my neighbors and I shouldn't have to be quiet 6 days a week including weekends just because he works nights . I am tired of waiting till after tea to do any of my jobs because he will be upset .

OMG I can sympathise with you OP. When I still lived at home with my DM,my older brother used to get up at 4am,4 mornings a week to do the early shift at a 24 hour supermarket. He was home by 2pm,and would promptly go to bed for 2 to 3 hours,as he was knackered. During that time,we were 'forbidden' to use the vacuum cleaner, talk too loudly, flush the upstairs toilet or use the upstairs bathroom,or have the TV on louder than a whisper. It used to drive me mad,but my DM used to go along with it as she was scared of reprisals from him. I could guarantee that every week there'd be an argument between him and me,because I'd sneezed or coughed and woken him up.
I can remember him going storming round to the NDN's because they'd had the audacity to be doing DIY at 3pm in the afternoon! Grin. Apparently, the NDN told him where to go.

Both DH and I work nights, it's annoying in summer when it's hot and kids are noisy but I mean internally or to my colleagues. I'd never dream of moaning to my neighbour for living their life whilst I'm alseep

Moan internally not mean Grin

"My neighbour has a sign on the door, saying 'do not knock. night shift worker asleep til 3pm' to deter sales people, cold callers, and people trying to drop off parcels for neighbours"

I could have done this but it would have been fruitless ) when i was working nights and the HA i rent from expected me to stay up ALL the next day for the gas safety check (wouldnt budge on this by giving me an appointment time) and then didnt turn up. More than once.

I'm a night shift worker. The only time I've got infuriated and yelled at someone is when a charity door knocker persistently hammered on my door until I had to get up. I have one of those "polite notice don't knock if your charity, cold caller etc...." on the door but when I answered thinking it was the police or something drastic, she laughed and said "oops sorry I didn't see the sign" and tried to give me a speach. I asked if I should bang on her door at 1am and slammed the door chuntering.

Your neighbour is unreasonable, the world doesn't stop because I want to sleep

Ignore him. He cant expect the world to revolve around him. I'm night shift this weekend and have had to listen to my neighbour using a stihl saw all weekend. Its driven me mad but no way would I speak to him about it. It's not his fault I'm out of sycnh with the norm.

Stop pandering to him

I had the same with a UkIP canvasser a few years ago. Proper hammering at the door despite a sign for a good 5 minutes. One of the few occasions the word count came out of my mouth.
