To get another cat?

Existing cat is a bit of a bellend.

Nice gentle temperament but quite active and somewhat destructive.

She is an adult cat, about 3 I think so not a kitten and forever running about, pinging the kids toys, jumping on/off stuff, crawling along the bottom of the sofa etc.
Claws the stairs, the bookcase, the bed, the sofa...
I don't really have the time to play with her.

If I was to get another cat, what are the chances of the destructiveness stopping and the two just playing with each other instead?

She is a nice cat but the clawing makes me want to throttle her!

I like the idea of her having a little friend to play with but the thought of two cats scratching up my house makes me feel a bit sick.

She is quite a social cat and friendly with pretty much all the neighbourhood cats.

So, wibu to get another cat (kitten)?

Playtime in the evening has made no difference whatsoever.
In fact, if anything, it makes her a bit more hyperactive!

She LOVES her new cardboard scratcher!
She hasn't clawed the sofa or bookcase or stairs once.
I don't think it's going to last too long though!

Can anyone recommend me a cardboard scratcher that is a bit more durable?

There is a weirdly shaped big lounger style cardboard scratcher I've seen, can't remember what it's called now that apparently lasts over a year!
I have no room (or money) for that one but I'm reading the Pets at Home willow scratching box is quite durable...?

I have three cats. Two play together and are like bookends as you rarely see one without the other either awake or asleep. The other cat ignores both of them and does his own thing.

I have one of those weirdly shaped lounger style scratches and all three love it so much that I have had to buy another one as one wasn’t enough between the three of them. They last a lot longer than a year. My most tatty and longest lasting one is around five years old and still in use.

Don’t buy from pets at home as the are expensive. Buy online from somewhere like zooplus

I wouldn't get a second cat. I did get a second cat a few years back thinking he would play with my indoor female cat (although it wasn't really a choice as he was a stray and given to me) but he grew up taller than her and a bit of a bully.

I was just coming on to say get those cardboard box type scratchers. The one shown just above is also comfy but mine likes lying on (and scratching) her box scratcher. Changed our lives!

I leave the amazon delivery boxes out for my cats, or you could get the boxes from the end of supermarket tills for free. Then chuck them when trashed. We have minimal scratching of furniture and carpets.

I have a 13yr old male and 8yr old female, the female we got as a kitten and the male treated her like his ward. They patrol the garden together and sleep and eat together. Now he’s nearly blind she is always with him if they go out the front. My sister had a similar experience but with an older female and male kitten. I agree that cats can be difficult to pair, but if you get the right friend they will be inseparable.
