To ask about contraception in over 50s

I am 51 and looking for contraception advice. New relationship, we have been using condoms but would like something else.
GP advised mirena coil but it sounds like it can be painful and uncomfortable and other side effects I’m wondering as it’s only going to be for a short period of time (til age 55?), would something else just be easier and less hassle, like mini pill or implant/injection? Any advice from anyone in the know would be great
Thanks

I liked the mirena when I had it but it needed removed under general anaesthetic as the strings went AWOL. They can migrate through the wall of the womb too so something to be aware of.

Mini pill is easiest to stop if it doesn't suit

I've had ti get a Mirena fitted, as part of my HRT plan.

I was amazed at the improvement in, taking a smear and getting it fitted. It isn't like the old days.

If you did decide on HRT. It would already be in place, you'd just add estrogen patches, which could be a consideration.

It didn't suit me when younger, but I've had no issues this time. It's worth having a chat about because as your hormones change, it might have cancer protective benefits.

I’ve been sterilised so that’s another option.

I read that if you have mirena fitted after age 45 you don't need to get it removed until you've gone through the menopause.
