Where to live?

Hi Mn, my Dh has been offered a job in Canary Wharf. I lived in Islington about 4 years ago and from abroad so not familiar with other areas. We are possibly moving to London again. What areas will be good to live around CW? we have a 3yo ds so will need to be around good schools. We loved living in Islington back then so something similar?

Canonbury - right by Islington but easier journey to wharf from Canonbury station

Or blackheath or Greenwich but I don’t know those as well

It rather depending on your budget and if you are renting or buying. There is no point us suggesting places that you can't afford to live at.

We are looking to rent. Budget isnt an issue. DH company will be contributing as well.

I think SE London could be good for you. Brockley/Telegraph Hill/Nunhead. V good state schools, nice family housing options, v easy commute to CW (overground then jubilee). Dulwich or Greenwich if you want private schools.

Stoke Newington is close to canonbury station (overground) and has a lovely park, lots of families.

Hi. We lived in Canonbury for 10 years. It's a lovely area, with some beautiful houses. Some great restaurants too either in nearby
Highbury or around Newington Green and Upper St is only 10 minutes away. The primary school people like most round there is William Tyndale and its catchment area is tiny - around 0.2 miles I think. Canonbury Primary is also well liked, with a similarly tiny catchment, but I much preferred Tyndale. We were outside the catchment for both schools so we moved out of area. So look very carefully at catchment areas before going ahead with a property. And we wouldn't have wanted to send our kids to Highbury Fields, the only state secondary option around there.

You can't get to Canary Wharf directly on the overground from Canonbury - you have to change onto the DLR for a stop or two. I think it's about 35 minutes.

Agree that Stoke Newington is lovely and us great primary schools but you will have a slightly longer commute as it could easily be a 20 minute walk to Canonbury.

Greenwich and Blackheath are very nice and cheaper than Canonbury. We looked at moving there from Canonbury but decided against it. Transport links into central London are not as good as from N1.

Thank you all for the advice. I'm going to look into it.
