Appealing carpark fine??

So this morning my DH has discovered he has incurred a parking fine for a carpark we often use of £100 which they will kindly reduce to £60 if he pays before the end of the month.

He paid for parking at an ANPR carpark and used their online system as he had no change on him. Except the car registration on the online account is his old registration and therefore the company are claiming we have not paid to park as our new car is shown entering and leaving but does not show as being paid for.

Is there any point in arguing the fine? The company have not lost out financially, he didn't over stay and it was a genuine mistake not an attempt to defraud them of £4 as they so kindly state in their letter. Hmm

Helpfully they also have no phone number. So I now also wondering what I should say to clearly get my point across in an email which will probably not even be read by a human being.

It’s a fundamental flaw to believe private parking companies act with common sense and decency.

That's why I was wondering if it was even worth bothering. I can already see their response before submitting the appeal "well you didn't enter the correct registration number as per our terms and conditions so the fine stands."

Its reassuring to know some people have challenged fines and been successful but as feared an equal amount have had their claims upheld even if they were issued for seemingly stupid reasons. I really don't see how its lawful to charge so much for seemingly not paying. The car park is £4 or an all day ticket so how can they justify a £100 fine??

There's a fair bit of well meant, but incorrect advice here.
Please start a thread on pepipoo... They really are the place to go for parking tickets

This happened to me. I hadn't had my new car very long, and I typed thr reg incorrectly. I appealed it, and won the appeal. I would try, as you have nothing to lose. Mine stated that if the appeal was lost, they restarted the clock, so I still had time to pay the reduced fine.

I did a similar thing. Parked in the same car park every week at the same time for an activity with my children. On one occasion I took my husband's car but automatically put in my registration.

I wrote back and explained that I had been using a different car and that if they checked the records they would see that I paid at the given time with my registration. They did let me off this time.

My Dad had a similar thing where he'd slightly incorrectly typed in his registration. He appealed successfully when we showed ticket so I'd say is worth appealing.

Private car park managers are buggers for issuing tickets at the drop of a hat, they really do try it on. We got one when my DH was still sitting in the driving seat, clearly visible in the photo they sent with the demand. He had only pulled over to read the notice saying what time the car park closed! Needless to say we told them where to go.

Council car parks are another matter. If they issue a ticket, you pay.
