To claim windscreen repair through insurance?

Just been speaking to my Dad on the phone, a stone hit his windscreen today and chipped it. He has comprehensive insurance with Aviva (possibly their premium package, he couldn't remember) so would either pay £10 excess or no excess if he has premium.

Information online though seems vague about whether windscreen repair claims need to be disclosed at future renewals... So although it won't affect his no-claims we're unsure if it will affect future premiums? Confused

Would he BU or unwise to get it fixed for free at the point of repair? Has anyone had a premium go up significantly following a windscreen repair claim?

Windscreen excess is normally a low fixed amount like £50 and it should affect ncb.

Shouldn’t not should doh. Nor should it affect premiums.

It should be fine. Cheaper for them than a claim for a shattered windscreen.

I claimed for a repair last year just before my insurance was due for renewal. Some of the online quote pages specifically asked about windscreen claims - and altered the quote if they were declared - about 30 pounds higher in my case. These days windscreens can be quite pricey though, so it's probably still worthwhile claiming.

Thanks, I think it probably would be easier to claim. Fairly sure he already pays for the premium comprehensive package anyway so the costs will be hidden in that whether he uses them or not!

Interesting your premium was affected though @VirtualHamster

While it might not affect your no claims bonus, any claim will affect the premium. So claiming, even for a "free" fix, could cost you more next year.

It didn't' impact my premium with my existing insurer - it was just when i was shopping around at renewal time that it had an impact on the quotes i was getting for some insurers.
